Assembly elections are due in Bihar this year and before that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken an important decision for women passengers. Now the four-lines seats in the state buses will be reserved only for women. This step has been taken especially keeping in mind the increasing number of women passengers and their convenience.
This decision was taken in an important meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary of Transport Department Mihir Kumar Singh. He said that women traveling in buses often have to stand and travel or have to face inconvenience for the seat. In such a situation, this decision is being considered an important initiative towards making his journey safe, comfortable and respectable.
Driver-conductor will be identified in buses
The Bihar government has taken many important steps to make public transport more secure and reliable. Now the identity of the driver and conductor will be clearly written in the state buses. Their names will be shown inside the bus and this information will also be available on the website of the Transport Department.
Also, the driver-conductor has now been made mandatory to wear khaki colored uniform and name plates. Special training will also be given to conductors to ensure gentle and respectable behavior with passengers. This step is considered important in terms of safety and convenience of passengers.
Strictness on old buses, fitness investigation will now be mandatory
The old and shabby buses running in the state will now be compulsorily examined. The purpose of the Transport Department is to ensure that no such bus moves on the road, which threatens the lives of the passengers. Also, basic facilities at bus stands are being improved. Facilities like drinking water and toilets will now be made available for passengers.
Improvement in driving license process, modern tracks prepared in 27 districts
The government has taken a big step to make the process of making driving license easy and transparent. Modern driving testing tracks have been prepared in 27 districts of the state. The number of applicants in districts like Saran, Rohtas and Madhubani is continuously increasing, in view of which it has been decided to develop additional tracks in these districts. In the last June, licenses were issued by taking thousands of tests in these three districts. This is expected to bring transparency in the license process and curb fraud.
