A 19-year-old student involved in the anti-paper leak protests, organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has reported an assault by four masked individuals in Bengaluru. This incident allegedly occurred around 10:30 pm on July 28 near BEL Circle as the student, Amann Deep Singh, was returning home after dinner. He described how he was on a phone call and heading towards MES Road when the attackers approached him on two motorcycles.

According to the first information report (FIR), the assailants confirmed his identity as “Amann Deep Singh of AISA,” referring to the left-leaning All India Students’ Association, before verbally assaulting him. One of the attackers reportedly shouted a derogatory phrase aimed at Singh, questioning his stance on demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The reported attack escalated when one of the masked men allegedly struck Singh’s right leg with a wooden log, resulting in injuries. Following the assault, the attackers fled the scene, leaving Singh to seek help. The police have since registered an FIR against unknown individuals and initiated efforts to identify and locate the assailants.

Police Response and Investigation

In response to the complaint, local authorities have begun an investigation to gather more information regarding the incident. Police officials are working to trace the individuals involved and to ascertain the circumstances leading up to the attack. The filing of this FIR appears to be in line with growing concerns over the safety of participants in protests against government policies.

This incident follows a notable development where FIRs against CJP protesters were withdrawn by police in seven states, including Delhi and Bihar, with the exception of those with previous criminal records. This decision was made following discussions on July 25 between the Central government and CJP representatives, including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
