Critics on social media have accused the actress of fabricating her experiences in a bid for sympathy, prompting a strong response from her sister, Sheetal Joshi, and her team.

On Thursday, Sheetal posted a video on Instagram aimed at clarifying the misunderstandings surrounding Shivangi’s statements. She mentioned that many commenters have connected Shivangi’s revelations with a previous interview, lacking a comprehensive understanding of the specific circumstances. Sheetal clarified that a ‘secret’ is information that is not already public knowledge, stating that Shivangi never claimed their family had always been impoverished.

Instead, she highlighted that Shivangi spoke about a significant period of hardship that arose when their father faced a substantial business failure, resulting in financial strain. Additionally, she addressed comments regarding their father’s military background and the family’s residence, arguing that challenges are not dictated solely by the size of one’s home.

Clarifications on Financial Difficulties

In her video, Sheetal stated that the home being discussed was constructed by their grandfather in 1980 and not by their father. She aimed to dispel the notion that their family had been destitute, explaining that although Shivangi had said they ‘came out on the streets,’ it did not imply homelessness. “We had a house, but it wasn’t earning us anything,” she elaborated.

Sheetal expressed the emotional toll that public dismissals of Shivangi’s narrative have had on their family. “We cried when Shivangi revealed that secret because we have lived through it,” she noted. She articulated pride in their current home, describing it as a product of Shivangi’s efforts. “If people now refer to it as a bungalow, it’s because of Shivangi,” she added, urging the public to reconsider any perceptions of dishonesty regarding her sister’s statements.

During her interview on Lock Upp, Shivangi shared that her family had to find various means of income after their financial setback, including working at a canteen and performing manual tasks to stay afloat. “They always felt ashamed about not being able to provide food. I am the only one who earns in my family,” she mentioned, reflecting on the determination that arose from those experiences.

Team Response to Criticism

The situation intensified as netizens recalled an earlier interview in which Shivangi mentioned her father’s service in the army, leading to accusations of inconsistency between her narratives. In light of this, Shivangi’s team released a statement asserting that there is no contradiction in her accounts.

The statement clarified, “Rest assured, Shivangi remembers exactly what she’s said in her interviews. What seems to have slipped past you is simpler: a person is allowed more than one chapter. Her father served, took voluntary retirement, then went into business. Army first, business later.” This response aimed to reinforce that both aspects of her father’s career are valid.

As of now, Shivangi Joshi has progressed to the finale week of Lock Upp 2, competing against participants such as Harshad Chopda, Shreya Kalra, and Shilpa Shinde for the title.
