Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has declared the initiation of pension support for all individuals diagnosed with Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia within the state, effective from August 15. The announcement is part of a broader initiative to provide financial assistance to those facing health challenges in the region.

Implementation and Monitoring

During a review meeting involving the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development departments, attended by Minister Seetakka and senior officials, Revanth Reddy instructed authorities to promptly identify eligible patients. The aim is to ensure that affected families receive timely relief through the newly established pension programme.

The Chief Minister has also taken steps to expand assistance by extending pensions to widows, single women, weavers, and toddy tappers across Telangana. Additionally, he mandated that pensions for the spouses of individuals with disabilities be sanctioned without delay following the death of the primary earner.

In conjunction with the pension initiatives, Revanth Reddy evaluated ongoing rural development efforts. He mandated local Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs) to supervise development projects at the mandal level, thereby ensuring effective oversight of all departmental activities. He proposed that Mandal Parishad meetings occur regularly every 45 days, with participation from local MPs, MLAs, and MLCs to facilitate the discussion of village concerns.

Infrastructure Development and Sanitation

The Chief Minister outlined a vision for improved infrastructure in Telangana, insisting that every village should be connected by tar roads. Plans are underway to construct a dedicated building for each Gram Panchayat, categorised according to the population size. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and governance at the grassroots level.

Revanth Reddy highlighted the importance of accountability, particularly for Panchayat Secretaries in terms of sanitation and other essential services within villages. He underscored the need for immediate funding for sanitation projects in Panchayats where elections faced delays, ensuring that developmental progress remains uninterrupted.

Further, he ordered the prompt procurement of quality ‘Indiramma’ sarees for distribution to ten million women, focusing on superior designs and materials. The Chief Minister suggested collaborating with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to incorporate beneficiary feedback and ensure high standards in the production process.

Water Supply Precautions and Coordination

In light of potential El Nino conditions, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed officials to take necessary precautions regarding the state’s drinking water supply. He called for a collaborative meeting involving the Rural Water Supply, Hyderabad Metro Water, and Irrigation departments to ensure a coordinated response to any forthcoming challenges.

The Chief Minister also placed significant emphasis on the timely payment of wages for personnel involved in rural drinking water schemes. He instructed that these payments should be made by the fifth day of each month to maintain operational effectiveness and morale among workers.

Participants in the review meeting included notable officials such as Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary N Sridhar, Special Chief Secretary of the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department Dana Kishore, Finance Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, and SERP CEO Divya Devarajan. Together, they aimed to refine the execution of these important initiatives and bolster developmental efforts within Telangana.
