Muhammad Yunus has handed over Bangladesh to Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba! Sheikh Hasina’s son warns India

The CSR Journal Magazine

During the era of Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh has fallen into the hands of the Pakistan-backed militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy has warned India. He described the interim government as “unelected, unconstitutional and completely illegal”.

He alleged that the Yunus-led administration has released “tens of thousands of terrorists” and that groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba are now operating freely in Bangladesh, posing a security threat to India. Wazed accused the current regime of shifting Bangladesh’s foreign policy sharply toward China, in contrast to his mother’s policy of friendly relations with all major powers.

Wazed called the recent death sentence verdict against his mother a “sham” and a “political vendetta”. He alleged that the legal proceedings involve violations of judicial norms, such as terminating judges before the trial and barring defense attorneys.

He also thanked India for providing ‘shelter’ to his mother. According to him, the militants were plotting to kill Hasina and India saved his mother’s life in difficult times.

Verdict on Sheikh Hasina “political vendetta”: Sajeeb Wazed Joy

In an interview given to an Indian news agency, Joy said, “The militants had plotted to kill my mother in Bangladesh. If she had not fled the country, she would have died. India saved her life in these difficult times.” Warning New Delhi, he further said, “During the era of Yunus, Bangladesh has become a free zone for Lashkar militants. Pakistan-backed militants are freely carrying out terrorist activities on its soil.” Talking about the July protests, he said, “This movement was not spontaneous. It was a pre-planned conspiracy to overthrow the government.”

Ever since she fled the country in the July coup, numerous cases have been filed against former PM Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh. Serious cases include the shooting of July revolutionary students, a crime against humanity, allegations related to the ‘House of Mirrors’, etc.

On Monday, November 17 the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, Justice Mohammad Shafiul Alam Mahmud, and Judge Mohammad Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury found the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh guilty. After that, the maximum sentence or death penalty was pronounced for Hasina. However, Joy called the mother’s sentence ‘political vendetta.

“At least 17 judges were dismissed before the trial. The law was illegally amended without the approval of parliament. Not only that, my mother’s lawyers were also banned from court proceedings,” he told during the interview.

Sheikh Hasina and Awami League do not accept ICT verdict

Hasina herself and her party did not accept the verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the verdict announced against her on Monday were “biased and politically motivated”. “I am not afraid to face my accusers in a proper tribunal where evidence can be weighed and tested fairly,” Hasina said in a statement. “Was given no fair chance to defend myself in court,” she added.

“Verdicts announced against me made by a rigged tribunal established and presided over by an unelected government with no democratic mandate. We lost control of the situation but cannot characterise what happened as premeditated assault on citizens,” she further said.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina’s party the Awami League has already said that a farce is being carried out in the name of trial in the Jamaat-influenced ‘Kangaroo court’. They have repeatedly said that where there is no opportunity for self-defence, there can never be a fair trial.

It is worth noting that Hasina or her Home Minister can file a case in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh against the verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh. The problem is that if Hasina does so, Yunus’s tribunal will get recognition, which the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and her party have been vocal against from the beginning.
