The CSR Journal Magazine

The recently released musical biopic Michael has reportedly earned over Rs 19 crore in its opening weekend at the Indian box office. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film explores the life of Michael Jackson and features Jaafar Jackson as the iconic pop star. The film has significantly outperformed other releases, especially in its first day performance.

On its opening day, Michael collected Rs 6.48 crore, surpassing the Rs 2.70 crore gross of Ryan Gosling’s Project Hail Mary. This achievement underscores the popularity of Michael Jackson’s legacy in India, supported by a strong ticket sale including approximately 45,000 tickets sold at major cinema chains such as PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis.

Global Box Office Success

Internationally, Michael has made impressive strides, amassing over $217 million in global earnings within just three days of release. The domestic box office in North America and Canada alone contributed a substantial $97 million, highlighting the film’s broad appeal and robust marketing.

The film’s strong opening is even more particularly notable as it manages to surpass the performances of other musical biopics like Elvis and Bohemian Rhapsody in India. The advance bookings for this film exceeded 1.10 lakh tickets, indicating strong demand right from the outset.

In terms of advance sales, Michael now ranks as the fourth-highest Hollywood film in India, trailing only behind monumental releases such as Avengers: Endgame, Oppenheimer, and Barbie. This illustrates not only the film’s appeal but also brings attention to the growing popularity of musical biopics in the Indian market.

Film Overview and Cast

Michael narrates the journey of Michael Jackson from his beginnings as a child star in the Jackson 5 to becoming a global music icon. The film aims to portray both the brilliance of his stage performances and the personal hurdles he encountered throughout his career.
