MCD Launches Citywide Drive Against Dengue as Delhi Reports 162 Cases This Year

The CSR Journal Magazine

With the monsoon season approaching and Delhi recording 162 dengue cases so far this year, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday launched a citywide awareness and fogging campaign aimed at curbing the spread of vector-borne diseases.

The initiative targets dengue, malaria and chikungunya, which typically witness a rise during and after the monsoon. As part of the campaign, the civic body has deployed awareness vehicles across all 250 municipal wards to support pre-monsoon preparedness efforts.

MCD Flags Off Awareness and Fogging Vehicles

Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi flagged off 100 auto-rickshaws equipped with fogging machines, banners and informational pamphlets.

The vehicles will travel across the capital to spread awareness about preventive measures and complement ongoing field inspections and anti-mosquito operations.

Speaking at the launch, Wahi said the civic body was strengthening preparations ahead of the rainy season and ensuring that public health messages reached every part of the city.

Officials said the campaign would be accompanied by intensified fogging operations and extensive public outreach activities.

Delhi Records 162 Dengue Cases This Year

According to the MCD’s weekly report on vector-borne diseases, Delhi has reported 162 dengue cases, 42 cases of malaria and nine cases of chikungunya so far in 2026.

Among the civic zones, the West zone has registered the highest number of dengue cases at 29, followed by the Central zone with 21 and Civil Lines with 20.

The West zone has also reported the highest number of malaria cases, with 14 infections recorded to date.

Mayor Urges Residents to Prevent Mosquito Breeding

Calling for greater public participation, Wahi urged residents to adopt the “Cover, Clean and Keep Dry” strategy to prevent mosquito breeding.

“We must keep water tanks and containers covered, maintain cleanliness in our surroundings and ensure that water does not stagnate around our homes,” the mayor said.

He added that the MCD remained committed to making Delhi “clean, hygienic and green” and would continue efforts to strengthen community participation in disease prevention.

The campaign combines awareness outreach and fogging operations as the civic body prepares for the monsoon, with the focus on limiting the spread of dengue, malaria and chikungunya in the coming weeks.
