Macron Bids Farewell to PM Modi in Hindi, Highlights India-France Friendship

The CSR Journal Magazine

French President Emmanuel Macron delivered an unusual farewell message in Hindi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the conclusion of the Indian leader’s visit to France, underscoring the warmth and growing closeness in ties between the two countries.

In a video message released at the end of the visit, Macron addressed Modi in Hindi before switching to English to thank him for what he described as a “very fruitful” visit. The gesture came after a series of high-level engagements between the two leaders during the G7 Summit and bilateral meetings in France.

Macron Opens Message in Hindi

In a departure from traditional diplomatic protocol, Macron began his message with a few lines in Hindi.

“Priya mitra Narendra, mujhe bahut khushi hai, daure ke liye swagat karte, France Bharat ki dosti amar rahe,” he said, before smiling and adding, “I hope it was correct.”

The Hindi message roughly translated to, “Dear friend Narendra, I am very happy, welcome for the visit, may the friendship between France and India remain eternal.”

Continuing in English, the French President thanked Modi for the visit and expressed hope of meeting him again next year.

“Priye mitr Narendra Modi. Thank you for your visit. Thank you for our friendship. It was a very fruitful visit. France loves you. We are looking forward to seeing you again soon, in February. Jai Hind,” Macron said.

Leaders Meet During G7 Summit

The farewell message came after Modi’s participation in the G7 Summit, where he held discussions with several world leaders over two days.

During the summit, the Prime Minister also held bilateral meetings with leaders including US President Donald Trump.

Earlier in the visit, Modi and Macron met at Villa Kerylos in Nice on June 14 in their first interaction since India and France elevated their relationship to the level of a Special Global Strategic Partnership earlier this year.

Focus on Defence and Space Cooperation

During their meeting in Nice, the two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral ties and expressed satisfaction over the expanding defence partnership between the two countries.

They agreed to further strengthen cooperation with an emphasis on co-design, co-development and co-production of defence platforms and advanced technologies.

The leaders also discussed expanding collaboration in the space sector, building on the long-standing cooperation between India and France.

Areas of discussion included human spaceflight, space situational awareness and greater participation of the private sector in space-related activities.

Innovation and Startups Feature in Bilateral Agenda

In Paris, Modi and Macron jointly visited VivaTech 2026, where they interacted with startups and explored emerging technologies across various sectors.

The leaders discussed opportunities in innovation and examined developments in cutting-edge technologies as part of efforts to deepen economic and technological cooperation.

Their engagements during the visit reflected the growing strategic and economic partnership between India and France, which both sides have sought to expand across defence, technology, innovation and space exploration.
