Legal complications are intensifying for former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, as a fresh police complaint has been lodged against her over allegedly provocative remarks made earlier this year. According to official sources, a local businessman filed the complaint at the Hare Street Police Station in Kolkata. The police have registered a case and initiated an official investigation. It remains to be seen whether law enforcement will summon the former Chief Minister for questioning regarding the matter.
The Controversial Remarks
The complaint stems from a speech delivered by Banerjee during an election rally in Esplanade earlier this year. The remarks, which quickly went viral on social media, sparked widespread political outrage and public criticism.
“You are all doing well because we are here,” Banerjee had stated from the rally stage. “If we are not there, it will take just one second! When a community does not stand united, it takes just one second to ruin everything if you are surrounded. If you do not want to destroy yourselves, do not fall for the BJP’s misinformation.”
At the time, citizens and political analysts questioned how an individual occupying the Chief Minister’s office could make statements deemed so provocative.
Escalating Legal Pressure
This fresh complaint adds to a growing list of legal challenges for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership.
Just recently, an FIR was filed against Banerjee by a lawyer at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station. That case was linked to controversial comments she allegedly made on June 2 at a rally on Rani Rashmoni Road concerning the assassination of Osman Hadi in Bangladesh.
With multiple cases now active, pressure is mounting on both Banerjee and the TMC, as authorities delve deeper into allegations of hate speech and public provocation.
