The investigation into the murder of 25-year-old Ketan Agarwal has revealed that the accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, allegedly communicated using coded language in their discussions. This finding emerged as police continue their inquiries into the events surrounding Ketan’s death, which occurred on June 18 at Lohagad Fort, located near Pune.
Both Siya, aged 20, and Chetan, aged 22, are implicated in the conspiracy that led to Ketan’s demise, which was initially represented as an accidental fall. However, both individuals later admitted to their involvement in the murder, prompting a deeper investigation into their communications prior to and following the incident.
During the investigation, Officer Manoj Pawar indicated that the police had previously seized mobile phones from both Siya and Chetan at the time of their arrest. A second mobile phone belonging to Siya was later recovered, raising hopes that it may provide valuable insight into their coded communications.
Coded Communications Under Scrutiny
Puratecution’s case revolves around the assertion that the conversations between Siya and Chetan contained coded messages whose significance has yet to be fully understood. Public Prosecutor Virkud emphasized that mobile data extracted from the devices was only recently recovered, and investigators still need to interrogate the accused concerning this new material.
Virkud noted that only Siya and Chetan can clarify the meaning of the codes allegedly used in their chats and requested additional time for thorough questioning in person. This request comes as the prosecution seeks to further illuminate the context of the communications exchanged between the two.
Despite the prosecution’s arguments, Chetan’s attorney, Uttarkar, contested the application for an extension of custody. He insisted that the Justification for further remand lacked any new developments and echoed prior reasons cited by the police for prolonging custody. This opposition was met with scrutiny as the court evaluated the necessity of continuing police remand.
Judicial Custody Ordered
The court ultimately determined that the prosecution’s request for an additional extension of police custody was unwarranted. Consequently, both Siya and Chetan were remanded to judicial custody for a period of 14 days, until July 16. This decision signifies a critical turning point as investigators now hold the responsibility to analyse the newly retrieved mobile phone and any pertinent digital evidence.
The forthcoming days are expected to be instrumental as authorities aim to decipher the coded conversations, attempting to construct a comprehensive timeline of events leading to Ketan’s tragic murder. The investigation continues to unravel further details, with the focus now shifting to the implications of this digital evidence.
As the legal proceedings advance, the outcome will depend significantly on the veracity and clarity of the evidence gathered. The involvement of both accused individuals in the case remains a focal point as investigators seek to fully understand the motivations and actions that resulted in Ketan’s death.
