Kalyan Banerjee Criticises West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari Over Removal of Mamata Banerjee’s PSO

The CSR Journal Magazine

Kalyan Banerjee, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has expressed strong disapproval of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari following the removal of Mamata Banerjee’s Personal Security Officer (PSO). Banerjee labelled the action as indicative of a “vindictive attitude” from the Chief Minister.

Addressing reporters from ANI, Banerjee stated the removal was regrettable, noting that the PSO had been in service for twenty years. He emphasised that security personnel are chosen based on trust, and the decision appears to undermine that principle. Banerjee asserted that the situation reflects autocratic governance.

Furthermore, he commented on the fact that Mamata Banerjee had not accepted the newly assigned PSOs, reiterating that the matter reflects a lack of confidence and respect for her security choices. The MP’s remarks underscore ongoing political strife within the state.

BJP Weighs In On Security Arrangements

In response to the controversy surrounding Mamata Banerjee’s PSO removal, Asim Sarkar, an MLA from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), affirmed that she will receive the security due to a former Chief Minister. Sarkar’s statement reinforces the BJP’s position on the matter, suggesting that Banerjee’s security needs are still being considered despite the recent changes.

The BJP’s engagement in this event may highlight broader political manoeuvring, as parties navigate the complex dynamics in West Bengal. The assurance of proper security for Banerjee is positioned as a way to mitigate potential backlash over the PSO’s removal.

As the political atmosphere grows increasingly heated, the involvement of opposing parties in defending the former Chief Minister may subdue some criticisms while posing questions about security protocols and governance practices in the state.

Internal Trinamool Congress Discontent Evident

Alongside the controversy surrounding the PSO, internal factions within the TMC appear to be gaining traction. A group of fifty-eight MLAs has reportedly established a separate faction within the West Bengal assembly. This faction has recognised Ritabrata Banerjee as its Leader of Opposition, as confirmed by the assembly speaker, Rathindra Bose.

This development reflects an increasing disunity within the TMC as members navigate their political pathways. The creation of a distinct faction might indicate dissatisfaction with the leadership and internal dynamics of the party, raising questions about future cohesion.

In addition, it has been reported that a significant majority of TMC MPs in the Lok Sabha, approximately two-thirds, led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, have merged with the Tripura-based Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). They have written to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, requesting a separate seating arrangement in the parliamentary chamber, further showcasing ongoing shifts within the party.

The actions of these factions could have far-reaching implications for the TMC, particularly as they attempt to solidify their influence amid political challenges. The situation in West Bengal remains fluid, with heightened tensions indicating potential future clashes between rival factions.
