A disturbing incident from Jharkhand’s Giridih district has sparked widespread outrage after a woman was severely injured when boiling oil was poured on her for resisting alleged sexual harassment. The attack occurred late Sunday evening in Gadi village under Leda Panchayat, within the Mufassil police station limits, according to police officials.

Harassment at Food Stall Turns Violent

The victim, who runs a small fast-food stall to support her family, was reportedly targeted by a group of youths who came to her shop and began making obscene gestures and harassing her. Her husband is physically disabled, and the stall is the family’s primary source of income. When the woman protested the behavior and confronted the youths, the situation escalated into a heated argument.

Boiling Oil Used as a Weapon

During the altercation, one of the accused allegedly grabbed a container of boiling oil kept for frying snacks and poured it on the woman. The attack caused severe burn injuries, particularly to her hands and legs. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Hearing the woman’s screams, local residents rushed to her aid and helped take her to Sadar Hospital. Doctors have described her condition as critical, stating that she has suffered extensive burns and requires intensive medical care.

Police Action and Investigation

Following the incident, police registered an FIR based on the victim’s statement and launched an investigation. One of the accused, identified as Uday Chaudhary, has been arrested. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect, Manish Chaudhary, who is currently absconding.

Senior police officials have assured that the case is being treated with utmost seriousness and that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible. Authorities have emphasized that such acts of violence against women will not be tolerated.

Village Outrage and Demand for Justice

The attack has triggered anger and fear among villagers, who have demanded swift arrests and exemplary punishment for the culprits. Residents say the incident highlights the dangers faced by women who speak up against harassment, particularly those trying to earn a livelihood under difficult circumstances.

As the investigation continues, the case has drawn attention to the urgent need for stronger safety measures and accountability to protect women in public spaces.
