Jemimah Rodrigues Ready for Flexible Batting Role as India Finalises T20 World Cup 2026 Plans

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian women’s cricket star Jemimah Rodrigues has indicated her readiness to bat in any position within the order, emphasizing the importance of clarity in her specific role. With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 approaching, the Indian team views the ongoing series against England as a critical opportunity to finalize their playing XI. Rodrigues has been a pivotal figure in this strategic adjustment.

Rodrigues Shifts Down the Order

This year, Rodrigues excelled in the No. 3 batting position against formidable teams such as Australia and South Africa. However, during the T20I series against England, she has adjusted her role by batting at No. 4 and No. 5 in the initial matches. Rodrigues regards this flexibility as essential for the team’s development. She noted, “I think I’m comfortable at all positions. In the end, it is important for me to have clarity. And when I have clarity about a certain role, I know I can go out there and deliver. Now is the time where we have a few more games to experiment about what’s the best combination that’s working for the team.”

Yastika Bhatia’s Return Boosts the Team

By moving Rodrigues to lower batting slots, the Indian team has enabled wicket-keeper batter Yastika Bhatia to gain valuable time at the crease. Bhatia, who is returning to the national side after an almost two-year injury hiatus, enhances the overall strength and depth of the batting lineup. Rodrigues commended Bhatia’s performance in her first match back, where she scored an impressive 54 runs. “Yastika was not with us lately because of her injury. So this is the only game time that she’s also getting. For us to have her here is a great advantage,” stated Rodrigues, highlighting the character required to succeed after such a long absence.

Focus on Strengthening the Batting Lineup

Rodrigues expressed her satisfaction regarding Bhatia’s rehabilitation and noted the team’s ongoing efforts to bolster their batting capabilities. She remarked, “I’m very happy with the way she’s going and very happy with the fact that we are still willing to add a little more in batting. And that’s the kind of mindset we have. And that’s the mindset we are going towards.” The Indian squad is dedicated to continuous improvement as they prepare for future matches.

Recent Matches and Upcoming Challenges

In the series against England, India Women’s team won the first match by a margin of 38 runs but suffered a 26-run loss in the second encounter. The decisive third match is scheduled for Tuesday in Taunton, where the team aims to reclaim their momentum and solidify their preparations for the T20 World Cup.
