Jaipur Woman Held for Alleged Attempt to Travel to Pakistan Over Suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed Links

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 38-year-old woman from Jaipur was taken into custody on June 25, 2026, for allegedly attempting to travel to Pakistan via Nepal to marry a suspected commander of the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed. The woman, identified as Babita Dhakad, also known as Khadija, was arrested by the Rajasthan Police Anti-Terror Squad. Officials report that Babita had been under surveillance from military intelligence for several weeks prior to her arrest.

The authorities have booked her under multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and she is currently in police custody until June 27, 2026. Investigators allege that she had been emotionally manipulated and converted to Islam by an online preacher, leading her to develop connections with extremist groups.

During the investigation, a forensic analysis of her electronic devices revealed several contacts with Pakistani phone numbers, some of which are suspected to be associated with Yusuf Azhar, a relative of Jaish-e-Mohammed’s leader, Masood Azhar. This suggests possible ties to key figures within the organisation.

Modus Operandi and Online Activities

Officials indicate that Babita began interacting with individuals linked to extremist circles after the Pahalgam attack in 2025. She reportedly initiated her search for information on Pakistani terrorists through social media platforms. Following her inquiry, she connected with various individuals by sending random friend requests to followers of relevant pages about Pakistan and Pakistani-occupied Kashmir.

Investigators found that she had been communicating with multiple Pakistani nationals via Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Additionally, her mobile phone and social media accounts contained chats and content allegedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives. Sources within the inquiry state that she shared one-time passwords associated with Indian mobile numbers to facilitate the use of those numbers for communication on international platforms.

Babita reportedly established a relationship with an individual named Abu Ubaidah, from whom she received guidance on becoming more familiar with Islamic practices, including prayer and Quran study. It was revealed that Abu Ubaidah expressed a desire to marry her and encouraged her to pursue involvement with Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Investigative Findings and Future Actions

Documents related to the investigation indicate that Babita had discussions with Abu Ubaidah regarding travel plans to Pakistan. They allegedly explored routes through Nepal, Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates. There was also mention of using cryptocurrency as a means of funding her journey, leading her to download relevant applications and conduct online research on the topic.

Authorities noted that Babita spent significant time engaging in conversations and video calls with Abu Ubaidah. However, she later expressed disappointment upon discovering his marital status. Moreover, the investigation has revealed that she had researched ways to create explosives and had been informed by a Pakistani handler about operational networks in India.

A comprehensive technical analysis of her mobile devices is set to confirm the information provided during her interrogation. Officials have reported that Babita displayed no remorse for her actions. Being the third of five siblings, it was noted that she had married in 2018 but separated soon after. The case is primarily focused on her alleged online interactions with JeM members from Pakistan and the material collected from her devices.
