Indian Railways to Cancel 77 Trains in June for Maintenance Across Multiple States

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian Railways is set to cancel 77 trains across various states, a decision that could impact numerous families planning travel during the holiday season. Sources within the railway department indicate that this cancellation stems from extensive maintenance work that is necessary for infrastructure improvements.

Retired railway official V.K. Gupta explained that such widespread train cancellations are typically a result of mandated maintenance or infrastructure enhancement. The ongoing work includes the establishment of a fourth railway line at Champa Station, located in the Bilaspur Railway Division, a project aimed at increasing train speeds and minimising delays in the future.

As construction progresses, certain trains in the affected routes will either be rerouted or completely cancelled. While this measure aims to enhance future services, it has immediate repercussions for passengers relying on regular rail travel.

States Affected by the Train Cancellations

The impending cancellations will significantly affect passengers from multiple states across India. The states directly impacted include West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha, potentially disrupting travel plans for individuals across these regions.

The railways have issued a list indicating that the cancellations encompass 65 express/superfast trains and 12 local passenger trains. This wide-ranging impact means that commuters and travellers should verify the status of their journeys ahead of time to avoid complications.

In addition to cancellations, there will be route changes for several important trains. Approximately eight major trains will be diverted to longer routes, and six trains will terminate before reaching their designated stations. Changes to departure and arrival timings are also expected, leading to extended travel times for many passengers.

List of Major Trains Affected and Diversions

Among the express trains scheduled for cancellation are various prominent services, including the Tatanagar-Bilaspur Express, South Bihar Express, and the Howrah-CSMT (Mumbai) Express. Affected trains also include the Puri-Jodhpur Express and the Udaipur-Shalimar Express, which serve popular routes.

The alteration of routes is not limited to cancellations. Notably, the Howrah-Pune Duronto Express and CSMT-Howrah Duronto Express will be rerouted, travelling via Raipur and Titlagarh instead of the usual Bilaspur-Champa route. Passengers should be prepared for potential delays and changes in their travel itineraries.

For those planning journeys during this period, it is advisable to check relevant updates regularly. Passengers should remain informed about any changes to their train schedules to ensure a smoother travel experience.

Recommendations for Passengers During Disruptions

With the likelihood of significant disruptions in train services, passengers are encouraged to take a proactive approach to their travel plans. First and foremost, it is advisable to check live train statuses through official platforms, ensuring that travel arrangements are based on the most current information available.

Moreover, it is crucial for passengers to understand the railway’s refund policies. In cases of train cancellation, full refunds will be issued, either directly credited to online bookings or processed at station counters for in-person transactions.

Lastly, for those whose train journeys could be affected, exploring alternative modes of transport—such as buses or flights—may be necessary. Keeping updated with any last-minute changes by contacting the railway helpline can also aid in better navigational choices.
