Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Wednesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he should step down and “become an influencer” instead. The remarks came as Dipke accused the Centre of failing to address concerns raised during nationwide protests over the NEET paper leak.

Speaking after returning to his hometown in Maharashtra following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Dipke also alleged that student protesters continue to face harassment despite the agitation being called off.

Dipke Targets PM Modi

Responding to questions about the Prime Minister’s videos addressing students on social media, Dipke said PM Modi appeared better suited to being a social media influencer than leading the government.

“I think Prime Minister Modi should now become an influencer. He is doing a good job as an influencer. He should vacate the Prime Minister’s chair so that another leader can handle that job,” he said.

Dipke also claimed that the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan had not reduced public anger, arguing that the protests were directed against the government rather than an individual minister.

He questioned why the BJP had “failed to understand the anger of the youth”.

Warns Against Harassment of Protesters

Dipke alleged that governments in several states were identifying and harassing students who had participated in the demonstrations.

“The government should stop harassing students. If it does not, protesters will teach it a lesson in the upcoming elections,” he said.

Warning that the agitation could resume, Dipke said the government should not mistake the end of the protest for the end of the movement.

Referring to the student protesters, he said they were “not terrorists” but the future of the country, adding that a larger agitation could be launched if they continued to face action.

Criticises BJP and Seeks Action

Dipke demanded action against those responsible for the reported use of pellet guns on protesters during the CJP demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, saying those who ordered the action should be held accountable.

Defending celebrations by CJP supporters after Pradhan’s resignation, he said volunteers had spent 36 days protesting in difficult conditions and had every right to celebrate what they viewed as a victory.

He also criticised the BJP for felicitating Pradhan in Parliament after his resignation and questioned the government’s handling of paper leak cases.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s recent announcement on fast-track courts for paper leak cases, Dipke alleged that the first hearing was postponed because the CBI counsel did not appear. He also dismissed BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s criticism of the protests, describing her as a “part-time politician” and saying he would respond only to “serious politicians”.
