India Dismisses Reports of Evacuating Citizens in UAE via Fujairah Port

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has refuted a recent media report suggesting that the Indian government is working alongside the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to create an evacuation route for Indian citizens through Fujairah port. The MEA described these claims as entirely unfounded and categorically false.

In a post on X, the MEA emphasised, “Fake News Alert! There is no basis in fact for such a story. There is no evacuation being planned. Please stay alert against such false and baseless claims.” This statement has been shared along with images highlighting the specific report in question, which has been the subject of considerable misinformation.

The clarification from the MEA followed the circulating report alleging that both nations were nearing an agreement aimed at facilitating the exit of lakhs of Indian workers via the Fujairah port. According to the report, this agreement was purportedly set to be signed during a stopover related to Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming foreign visit.

Recent Attacks in Fujairah Raise Concerns

Concerns regarding safety in Fujairah have become heightened after recent missile and drone strikes by Iran targeted the UAE, injuring three Indian nationals in the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone. One of these attacks reportedly caused a fire at the Fujairah Oil Industrial Zone on Monday, escalating fears for the well-being of workers in the region.

Indian authorities have condemned these attacks. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal publicly denounced the actions, labelling the attack which resulted in injuries to Indian workers as “unacceptable.” He called for an immediate end to hostilities and condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure and vulnerable individuals.

In his remarks on X, Jaiswal asserted, “India continues to stand for dialogue and diplomacy to deal with the situation, so that peace and stability may be restored across West Asia.” The MEA’s call for peace reflects the government’s broader commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad in times of crisis.

Reassurances to Indian Citizens in the UAE

The Indian government has a longstanding policy of ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens living overseas. Amid the recent uncertainty, the MEA is making efforts to reassure Indian nationals in the UAE about their safety. Various measures have been put in place to provide assistance and support as needed.

In addition, the Indian embassy in the UAE has been urged to maintain constant communication with Indian nationals and offer necessary updates regarding security conditions. The embassy is actively monitoring the situation to provide timely advice and information to safeguard the interests of Indian citizens.

The ongoing situation has highlighted the importance of collaboration between nations in addressing regional security challenges. While the MEA has dismissed the specific evacuation rumours, the reaffirmation of solidarity and cooperation among nations remains crucial in these tumultuous times.
