“I Pointed the Gun, Asked Them to Leave”: Govinda Recalls Handling Intruders in Mumbai Residence

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Govinda has recounted a disturbing late-night incident in which a group of around 22 to 23 unidentified individuals allegedly surrounded his residence in Mumbai, forcing him to take matters into his own hands after being unable to reach local law enforcement.

Speaking during a recent interview, the veteran actor said the incident occurred late at night when he noticed a large group gathering outside his house. Initially assuming they were guests attending a nearby event, Govinda soon sensed something was amiss. “Their behaviour didn’t seem normal, so I started recording a video,” he said, describing how the situation quickly escalated.

Govinda claimed that repeated attempts to contact the Mumbai Police emergency helpline went unanswered, adding to his anxiety. In desperation, he said he called the police of another country and requested them to stay on the line while the situation unfolded. “I needed someone to be there with me,” he explained.

Escalation Raises Alarm

According to the actor, the situation worsened when one of the individuals allegedly climbed onto the terrace of his house. “They had started surrounding me,” Govinda said, noting that he feared for his safety and that of his family. Faced with what he perceived as a serious threat, the actor said he retrieved his licensed firearm as a precaution.

When he confronted the group and asked them why they were there, one person reportedly claimed they had come to “fix the power system.” Govinda said he found the explanation suspicious, as no repair work was carried out and the group did not leave immediately.

Group Disperses After Confrontation

Govinda stated that he eventually pointed his firearm towards the group, after which they fled the premises. “They were not expecting that,” he said, adding that the situation de-escalated only after the group dispersed.

Reflecting on the incident, the actor said he chose not to let the experience disturb his peace of mind. “Dwelling on such things only drains your energy,” he remarked. Govinda added that while staying silent for too long can sometimes lead to misunderstandings, an actor should focus on work rather than reacting publicly to every episode.

Manager Confirms Threat Concerns

Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, later confirmed that the actor had been receiving threats prior to the incident. He expressed relief that Govinda was legally armed at the time, stating that it helped prevent a potentially dangerous outcome. He added that the matter was subsequently brought to the attention of authorities and that security arrangements were being reviewed.

The incident has once again raised questions about celebrity security and emergency response in metropolitan cities.
