On Saturday a major road accident happened on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway in Alwar district of Rajasthan. This morning a sleeper bus carrying 40 passengers overturned, leaving many injured and some in critical condition. Seven out of 40 passengers are seriously injured and undergoing advanced treatment. The bus was travelling from Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh to Govardhan, Uttar Pradesh via Rajasthan.

Eyewitness account

Police said that the private sleeper coach that was carrying the passengers from Sheopur Madhya Pradesh to Govardhan in Uttar Pradesh lost control near Reni police station in Alwar district. Reportedly the bus was traveling at a very high speed and hence could not control the speed and overturned.

One eyewitness said when the bus flipped passengers in the bus jolted from their seats. “Some of the passengers were thrown against the windows causing injuries and some were trapped inside the bus.” Eyewitness further elaborated that commuters rushed to help and also called the police.

Reni police immediately reached the spot and rescued trapped passengers. Along with police, commuters helped rescue passengers and passengers were shifted to hospital immediately.

Condition of injured passengers

Doctors treating the patients said many passengers’ legs, shoulders and heads were injured badly. Those passengers with critical injuries have been taken to district hospital in Alwar for specialized treatment.

Investigation has been initiated by police and the primary investigation suggests, bus lost control due to overspending. However, further investigation is underway to determine the exact reason behind the accident.

Due to the accident, traffic movement in the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway was disrupted. In order to clear the traffic at the earliest, authorities had to use a crane to remove the overturned bus.
