Torrential monsoon rain battered large parts of India on Wednesday and Thursday, triggering flash floods, landslides and widespread disruption to road and rail services across several states. Rescue teams were deployed at multiple locations, while thousands of people were shifted from flood-affected areas as authorities prepared for further heavy rainfall.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the chief ministers of Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir to review the situation and assured them of all possible assistance from the Centre. The impact of the intensifying monsoon was felt across Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan.

Three Killed In Delhi Building Collapse, Roads Waterlogged

The India Meteorological Department issued red and orange alerts for the national capital and warned of thunderstorms, intense rainfall and lightning.

Three people were killed after a newly constructed four-storey building collapsed in Rohini.

According to a preliminary assessment by the civic body, plumbing work was underway inside the building and drilling or cutting of structural components, including beams and columns, may have caused the collapse. Officials have not linked the incident to the heavy rainfall.

Severe waterlogging was reported from Sadar Bazar, Nasirpur, Greater Kailash, Badarpur, Teliwara, Mahavir Bazar, Swarup Nagar and Kushak Road.

Traffic movement slowed considerably on Ring Road, Outer Ring Road and NH-48, particularly near Dhaula Kuan, Mahipalpur and Rajokri.

The Delhi Fire Service responded to calls regarding uprooted trees in East of Kailash, while civic agencies received several complaints about waterlogging, fallen trees and power outages.

The Delhi government said long-standing flooding hotspots, including Minto Bridge and ITO, did not witness waterlogging during the latest spell of rain.

Heavy Rain Causes Traffic Chaos In Gurugram

Heavy rainfall also disrupted normal life in neighbouring Gurugram, where severe waterlogging stranded vehicles and slowed traffic on several major roads.

Rail services on the Mumbai-Pune route were also disrupted after landslides were reported in the Bhor Ghat section.

Thousands of residents living in low-lying areas were evacuated and shifted to safer locations.

Authorities also distributed food packets to residents stranded inside waterlogged high-rise buildings as persistent rainfall continued to affect the city.

Rescue Operations Continue After Kerala Landslide

In Kerala’s Wayanad district, search operations continued for five people who went missing after a rain-soaked mound of excavated earth collapsed at a tunnel project site.

Chief Minister V D Satheesan visited the site to review the rescue operations, which were being hampered by intermittent rainfall.

Rescue teams continued searching for the missing people despite difficult weather conditions.

Flash Floods Hit Jammu And Kashmir, More Rain Forecast In Rajasthan

Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in parts of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, prompting authorities to launch emergency response measures.

The worsening weather conditions in the region were also discussed during Amit Shah’s conversation with the chief minister.

In Rajasthan, the southwest monsoon remained active, with Ramganj Mandi in Kota district recording the state’s highest rainfall at 10 cm.

The IMD has forecast further rainfall across several districts over the next two to three days, raising concerns about additional flooding and disruption.

With the monsoon strengthening across northern, western and southern India, authorities in several states remained on alert as rescue operations continued and more heavy rainfall was forecast in the coming days.
