Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) PoJK has officially called for a complete boycott of the ongoing legislative assembly elections in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir. The party has raised concerns over the transparency of the electoral process, alleging that it is being conducted amid instances of violence against protesters. The call to boycott emphasises the party’s stance that the elections are not reflective of the true will of the people.

This announcement comes amidst a backdrop of unrest in the region, where reports indicate that unarmed civilians have died during protests. The PTI alleges that the circumstances surrounding the elections are marred by manipulation and disregard for the democratic process.

In a video message shared on social media, Secretary General of PTI PoJK, Mir Atiq ur Rehman, described the elections as “the worst kind of mockery,” expressing that the ongoing events only serve to undermine the legitimate demands of the Kashmiri people. He urged an end to what he termed the “theatrics” occurring in the region.

Condemnation Of Government Response To Protests

During his address, Rehman specifically criticised the governments of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), alleging that both parties have portrayed the Kashmiri population as traitors for their own political advantages. This sentiment reflects a broader discontent with how the local and national governments have handled dissent and public opinion in Kashmir.

Rehman denounced the use of force against protesters, stating that such actions are unacceptable. “The use of force against unarmed and innocent citizens is never justifiable,” he remarked, further alleging that authorities have employed violence to suppress the voices advocating for basic rights.

The PTI leader made a poignant observation, stating that while families are mourning the loss of their loved ones due to recent violence, celebrations related to the electoral process continue, which he described as “rubbing salt into wounds.” This comment highlights the stark contrast between the local populace’s grief and the political atmosphere surrounding the elections.

Calls For Dialogue And Civil Engagement

PTI PoJK has called for a shift from confrontation to dialogue. Rehman urged local authorities to engage constructively with the public instead of relying on coercion and violence. He stated, “The rulers must come to their senses; issues are not resolved through force.” This appeal for dialogue underscores the PTI’s belief in the necessity of listening to the voices of the people in order to create a more inclusive governance framework.

The party’s statement further claimed that thousands of residents are currently participating in a sit-in at Dhe Chok in Rawalakot, where they allege that Rangers opened fire on peaceful demonstrators, resulting in numerous casualties and injuries. This incident has heightened tensions and raised serious questions about the conduct of security forces in the region.

In its outreach, PTI PoJK has encouraged citizens across the region, particularly in Muzaffarabad Division, Jammu, and the Valley, to follow the example set by Mirpur Division in boycotting what they described as a “rigged, fraudulent, opaque, and unfair election.” The party’s position highlights a unifying call against what it perceives as systemic injustices within the electoral framework.
