Goa Club Inferno: Five Staffers Arrested, Luthra Brothers Await Deportation

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Goa Nightclub fire in which 25 people were killed has taken a new twist, the absconding club owners have been detained and the process of deportation has been initiated. People closely associated with the matter, said that the brother duo will face trial in India. Currently, the external affairs ministry (MEA) is closely examining the request of revoking the passports of Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in North Goa co-owners brother duo Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra. The duo left India immediately after the fire broke out in their club, and thus an Interpol Blue Corner notice was at the request of the CBI.

What does the investigation state?

Investigation by the Goa Police has revealed that the club owners booked their flight tickets to Thailand immediately after the fire broke out, even though the emergency team was fighting to control the blaze. As per the officials investigating the matter, brothers Gaurav and Saurabh got their ticket booked on MakeMyTrip at 1:17 am on December 7, this is the same time when police, firefighters were caught in struggle to control and douse the flames and safely rescue people trapped inside the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora. An official said that even though the Goa Police and Goa Fire Services were battling to douse the fire and rescue the people trapped inside, the Luthra brothers were preparing to flee the country, this is suspicious.

What Is the status of brothers’ deportation from Thailand?

Yesterday, a court in New Delhi denied a bail plea and did not grant any protection against arrest, while the lawyers of the accused kept on arguing that the brothers weren’t absconding but were on a business trip, and the lawyer even pressed that they weren’t the owners but just the licensees. He even argued that the brother doesn’t indulge in the day-to-day operations of the club and is taken care of by the club’s staff.

The current status of the case is that 5 managers and staff members of the club have been arrested in connection with the fire that started around midnight and quickly engulfed the venue. Besides, Indian authorities are coordinating with Thailand counterparts for a smooth deportation process. The Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant said within eight days the inquiry report will be ready and the state has started disbursing compensation to victims’ families.
