Xiaomi 18 Fold Set to Launch September 7 with Proprietary Xring O3 Chip

The CSR Journal Magazine

Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of its new foldable device, the Xiaomi 18 Fold, set to debut on September 7, 2026. This announcement came out during the IFA 2026 event held in Berlin. The timing of this launch is noteworthy, as it occurs just two days before Apple’s anticipated unveiling of its first foldable device, the iPhone Ultra.

Both devices reportedly share similar aesthetics based on leaked images, which may draw comparisons in both design and functionality among consumers. Pre-release speculation suggests that the Xiaomi 18 Fold will be priced at over CNY 10,000, approximately Rs 1,40,677. This indicates a price increase from the previous model, the Mix Fold 4, which was priced at CNY 8,999, around Rs 1,26,599.

Reports also indicate that there could be a special colour edition of the Xiaomi 18 Fold, specifically highlighted in red during the IFA presentation. Such options may appeal to a range of potential buyers looking for a unique design.

Specifications and Features

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is designed to innovate within the foldable phone market. It features a 5.38-inch cover display that expands to a 7.58-inch inner screen when unfolded. Xiaomi claims that this design makes the phone comparable in size to a passport, enhancing portability and usability, while the larger display is to facilitate multitasking and multimedia consumption.

Initial visuals of the device reveal a striking deep red finish and a horizontal camera arrangement on the rear, housing three lenses and an LED flash. Notably, Xiaomi has collaborated with Leica to enhance the camera system, suggesting an emphasis on imaging capabilities for this model.

Furthermore, the Xiaomi 18 Fold has a newly developed “dragon bone” hinge designed to bolster durability. The company has utilised simulation-based testing methods to determine the hinge’s robustness, ensuring that it withstands extensive usage.

Performance and Additional Features

The smartphone will run on Xiaomi’s newly introduced Xring O3 flagship processor, marking a strategic shift from using Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in previous models. This change may improve performance and overall efficiency. Additionally, the device will feature LPDDR6 RAM, positioned as a substantial hardware upgrade, expected to enhance multitasking capabilities significantly.

Leaked information from tipster Bald Panda indicates that the Xiaomi 18 Fold could come with a robust 6,000mAh battery, with anticipated support for 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. If accurate, this may position the device favourably against competitors, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, which typically includes smaller batteries.

Though Xiaomi has yet to officially confirm the battery capacity or the charging specifications, these features will likely contribute to a positive user experience, particularly for a device of this scale. Additionally, the device may incorporate a 200-megapixel primary camera and have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold will officially hit the market on September 7, alongside the launch of other devices, including the Xiaomi N70 Pro, N70 Max, N90 Max, and the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, which will also utilise the Xring O3 processor.
