Ghaziabad’s Khoda Area Sees Tension Following Bakrid Murder Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

The community in Khoda, Ghaziabad remains uneasy nearly a week after the stabbing death of 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan. This incident, which occurred on May 28, has led to a significant investigation characterised by arrests, a police encounter, and heightened security measures. The murder has become a focal point of public attention across Ghaziabad and adjacent districts.

According to law enforcement, Surya was attacked at around 3.30 pm in Navneet Vihar, following an alleged dispute involving a motorcycle. Family members asserted that he was lured to the location via a phone call and subsequently ambushed by Asad and his associates. Despite suffering multiple stab wounds, he succumbed to his injuries later at a Noida hospital, igniting protests and calls for action against the perpetrators.

In the wake of the incident, police launched a manhunt, apprehending three suspects while Asad remained at large. A reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for information regarding his capture. The investigation quickly gained momentum, drawing attention from both community members and political leaders.

Police Encounter and Arrests

A critical development occurred on the night of May 30–31, when police received intelligence about Asad attempting to orchestrate his escape. A joint operation by Khoda and Indirapuram police led to his confrontation, during which he reportedly fired at the officers. In the ensuing exchange, Asad sustained fatal injuries, and one police officer was also reported injured.

Following Asad’s death, authorities apprehended three more individuals—Nawab, Farhan, and Atif—who were allegedly involved in the murder conspiracy. Efforts to locate another suspect, Sarik Mewati, who remains at large, are ongoing as police maintain their pressure on criminal elements in the area.

In the aftermath of this high-profile case, administrative actions have also been initiated. Authorities issued a notice to the residence associated with Asad’s family concerning alleged illegal construction and encroachment of land. A special operation named ‘Operation Clean Sweep’ has been launched, aiming to reinforce law and order in Khoda.

Community Response and Current Situation

Despite the support from public representatives, the Chauhan family has expressed a desire for full justice and stringent measures against those responsible for the murder. They recently immersed Surya’s ashes in the Ganga at Haridwar, signifying their mourning and quest for resolution.

As tensions persist in Navneet Vihar and its surroundings, significant police presence and drone surveillance are active in the area. Markets show reduced activity amid ongoing security concerns, although local residents report that initial fears have somewhat subsided. However, the emotional ramifications of Surya’s murder continue to resonate, leaving many questioning whether justice will be served in this prominent case of 2026.
