The Prime Minister’s remarks follow a recent incident in the Gulf of Oman, where three Indian nationals tragically lost their lives after US forces targeted the Palau-flagged oil tanker Settebello. The vessel was said to be operating with a 28-member crew that included 24 Indians, two Pakistanis, one Ukrainian, and one Russian.

According to reports, the Settebello was intercepted and struck by US military forces over an alleged violation of a blockade while transporting oil from Iran. This incident has raised concerns regarding the safety of vessels operating in this strategically important region.

The Settebello is part of a troubling trend, as it is one of three merchant vessels featuring Indian crew members that have encountered issues amidst rising regional maritime tension.
