Formula E Controversy: KTR Questioned Again by ACB

As part of its ongoing probe into the Formula E race case, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) summoned BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao, who appeared before it on Monday.

Speaking to the media at the BRS headquarters ahead of his appearance, K. T. Rama Rao described the investigation as “political harassment” and alleged that the Congress government was attempting to deflect attention from its unfulfilled election promises.

KTR indicated he might be arrested, but said it wouldn’t deter him. He recalled going to jail during the Telangana movement and expressed readiness to go again, even multiple times, for decisions made in the interest of Hyderabad’s image. He also warned that the Congress government would be held accountable for its election commitments. He added that truth will triumph in the end.

Back in January, K. T. Rama Rao—then the Urban Affairs Minister in the BRS administration—was interrogated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau as part of its probe into the Formula E event irregularities.

ACB’s case revolves around irregular foreign currency transactions sanctioned without official clearance for the February 2023 Formula E race held during BRS’s rule, with KTR named in the probe.

While another edition of the race was planned for February 2024, it was cancelled following the change in government, after Congress came to power in December 2023.

The BRS leader defended the decision to host the Formula E race, stating that both the event and the related financial transactions were integral to the BRS government’s broader strategy to elevate Hyderabad’s global image and position it as a world-class destination for international events.

K. T. Rama Rao was last questioned by the ACB on January 9, 2025, during a marathon session that lasted approximately six to seven hours.
