India-Brazil Kolkata Football Match Tickets Sell Out Rapidly

The CSR Journal Magazine

The ticket sales for the eagerly awaited football exhibition match between India and Brazil commenced on September 2 at 4 pm IST. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with most tickets sold out within 20 minutes. This included a significant number of non-premium tickets, priced between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000. This rapid sell-out created a virtual queue for users, reflecting the high demand reminiscent of popular IPL matches.

Brazil, a five-time world champion currently ranked fifth in the FIFA rankings, is set to clash with India at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on October 3. This game marks a historic moment, as it will be the first time Brazil’s senior men’s national team has played in India. This match is considered one of the most significant events in the history of Indian football.

In terms of pricing, premium tickets ranged from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000, and also experienced high demand. The most affordable tickets were available starting at Rs 999, which is relatively high for an Indian football match. The stadium, which has a capacity of 85,000, is expected to be filled to capacity as the city welcomes the Brazilian team.

Brazil’s Squad and Preparations

For supporters concerned about the strength of the Brazilian squad, there appears to be reassurance. An official from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has suggested that Brazil will be bringing their top players unless unforeseen injuries occur. This could mean that fans might witness renowned footballers such as Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, and Endrick, managed by Carlo Ancelotti.

This match is also part of Brazil’s initial FIFA international window following the 2026 World Cup. The Brazilian Football Confederation has announced that the matches against Australia and India will be integral to their preparations and assessments ahead of the 2028 Copa America and the 2030 World Cup. This context adds more significance to the upcoming fixture.

In light of the upcoming matches, India’s head coach Khalid Jamil has named a 26-member squad that will compete in three challenging international friendlies against Panama, Brazil, and Uruguay. The match against Panama will take place in Bengaluru on September 26, before the team travels to Kolkata for the Brazil match on October 3, and then faces two-time world champions Uruguay on October 6 in the same venue.

India’s Campaign and Squad Details

The Indian squad features a mix of experienced players such as Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Anirudh Thapa, Sahal Abdul Samad, and Manvir Singh, alongside several younger talents. However, notable absences include Sandesh Jhingan and Lallianzuala Chhangte, while four players have been designated as reserves. Coach Khalid Jamil’s team will initiate their training camp in Bengaluru on September 14, ahead of the crucial matches.

This three-match series offers India the opportunity to face diverse and formidable opponents, all of which have participated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The fixtures against Panama, Brazil, and Uruguay will serve as significant tests, allowing the coaching staff to evaluate the players against teams at a substantially higher level than typically faced. The Brazil match is expected to garner the most attention, given Kolkata’s enduring passion for Brazilian football.

The significance of these matches extends beyond the one-time event. Competing against Brazil and Uruguay within a short span, following the match against Panama, provides the Blue Tigers with a valuable experience, which is often not possible during regular training sessions. This unique opportunity allows the Indian team to gauge their progress relative to some of the world’s leading footballing nations.
