Nasdaq Aims to Encourage More Indian Companies to List on Exchange

The CSR Journal Magazine

Nasdaq is actively seeking to increase the number of Indian companies listing on its exchange, as global interest in India continues to rise. This statement was made by Edward Knight, Executive Vice Chairman of Nasdaq, during an event where Indian Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, rang the opening bell. Knight expressed that the current enthusiasm among global investors is due to India’s economic progression. He acknowledged the ongoing expansion in India’s technology sector and its vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.

According to Knight, the investor interest in India is substantial and well-founded. Various indicators suggest that Nasdaq is keen to see more Indian firms participating in the US stock market in the near future. The Executive Vice Chairman highlighted the vital role India’s economic stability and growth play in attracting foreign investments.

The presence of major Nasdaq-listed companies, such as Google, Apple, and NVIDIA, has further demonstrated a growing commitment to India. Knight noted that these organisations are investing significantly in the country, which is positively influencing their stock performance on the exchange. This influx of investment reportedly fuels greater enthusiasm among global investors looking at opportunities in India.

Ambassador Kwatra Remarks on India’s Transformation

During the same event, Ambassador Vinay Kwatra elaborated on the significant economic and technological transformation occurring in India, which he said is paving the way for deeper collaborations with US firms and investors. Kwatra emphasised the importance of a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem, enhanced digital capabilities, and a youthful, skilled workforce in this transformation.

Kwatra pointed out that these factors are crucial in strengthening the economic ties between India and the United States. He identified technology and investment as central to the evolving economic relationship, indicating that Nasdaq’s leadership in technology can play an essential role in this partnership.

One of the key aspects of India-US relations, according to Kwatra, is the collaboration with technology-leading firms listed on Nasdaq. He underlined that this partnership is vital for technology-driven capital, infrastructure development, and facilitating the mobility of skilled professionals.

India’s Economic Growth and Future Prospects

Ambassador Kwatra cited recent economic data, stating that India’s economy grew by 7.8 per cent in the latest quarter. He articulated that as India advances towards its vision of Viksit Bharat, which translates to ‘Developed India’, there is hope for an even stronger partnership with American businesses, investors, and institutions.

He praised the ongoing economic developments in India, asserting that this growth trajectory will likely yield additional opportunities for US companies to engage with the Indian market. Both Kwatra and Knight envisioned a mutually beneficial relationship that harnesses India’s potential in innovation and technology.

Subsequently, Knight reiterated Nasdaq’s commitment to fostering these international relationships, showcasing the ceremony as a celebration of India and the United States’ continuing alliance. The event also included notable representatives from the US-India Business Council, further solidifying support for expanding bilateral economic ties.
