Congress MP Pawan Khera has publicly condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the uproar over a fish feast that was organised during a welcome event for Ajay Rai, the Congress chief of Uttar Pradesh, in Ayodhya. Khera alleges that such controversies are deliberately stirred up to distract from pressing issues, specifically referencing ongoing paper leak scandals.

During a recent statement, Khera remarked that the focus on the fish feast serves as a diversion from crucial problems affecting the public domain. He highlighted that when the topic of Ayodhya is mentioned, it often evokes memories of donation misappropriation, questioning whether a mere fish dish can overshadow such significant issues.

Khera further commented on dietary choices, suggesting that just because certain segments of society, like those in Nagpur, oppose fish consumption, it should not dictate the culinary preferences of others. He noted that Ajay Rai is a vegetarian and questioned the implications of having a fish dish at the gathering.

Local Religious Figures React to the Feast

The controversy intensified following the release of a video depicting fish being prepared at a banquet facility in Ayodhya for Rai’s welcome event. This prompted backlash from various local religious leaders who objected to the meal arrangements, given that the event occurred during the sacred month of Sawan.

In response to the uproar, BJP MP Ashok Bajpai accused the Congress party of disrespecting religious sentiments by hosting a fish feast in Ayodhya, which is known for its religious significance to Hindus. He argued that while individuals have the right to choose their diets freely, such actions in a location of profound religious importance are bound to incite criticism from local communities.

Bajpai also alleged that the incident illustrates Congress’s tendency towards appeasement politics and suggested that it reflects an “anti-Hindu” ethos prevalent within the party. His remarks indicate a belief that political actions should align with prevailing cultural and religious sentiments.

Defending Congress’s Stance on Monopolies

Khera reiterated that the Congress has consistently expressed its concerns about monopolies and their detrimental effects on the economy. He reiterated the importance of fair competition and emphasised that allowing one entity to dominate an industry is harmful to national interests.

On the matter of the meeting between Adani and Shivakumar, which took place at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bengaluru, there has been no official comment released from Shivakumar. The lack of statements has left many observers speculating about the discussions held and the implications for industrial policy in Karnataka.
