Former Australian and Queensland wicketkeeper John Maclean has died at the age of 80 after facing a prolonged illness. His passing has been confirmed by various news outlets. Maclean made his Test debut for Australia against England in 1978 in Brisbane. The following year, he played his first One Day International (ODI) match, again against England. Over his career, he represented Australia in four Test matches and two ODIs. He began his first-class cricket journey with Queensland in 1968, distinguishing himself with a notable debut season in the Sheffield Shield, where he scored his highest first-class total of 156 runs.

Notable Contributions to Queensland Cricket

Throughout his career, Maclean proved to be a vital member of the Queensland cricket team, helping them reach the final four times within five Sheffield Shield seasons between 1973-74 and 1977-78. His leadership skills were evident as he captained Queensland in 30 out of the 86 matches he played in the Sheffield Shield. By the end of his first-class career, Maclean amassed a total of 385 dismissals, which included 354 catches and 31 stumpings. His performance in the Sheffield Shield stands out, with a total of 314 dismissals, making him the fourth highest for Queensland and ranking 11th in the history of the tournament.
