Family of Pahalgam Terror Attack Victim Seeks Justice on Tragic Anniversary

The CSR Journal Magazine

The family of Santosh Jagdale, a victim of the Pahalgam terror attack, commemorated the approaching first anniversary of the tragedy. On April 22, 2025, a violent assault by Pakistan-backed terrorists led to the deaths of 26 individuals in a village within Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Pragati Jagdale, the late Santosh Jagdale’s spouse, recalled the harrowing experiences of that day, expressing a strong desire for the government to prevent future occurrences of such violence.

Pragati reflected on the disbelief she felt upon learning of her husband’s death, encapsulating the shock and dismay that swept through affected families. She noted that the government had initiated Operation Sindoor as a response to the attack, showcasing her appreciation for the military’s action while calling for increased recruitment into the armed forces to enhance the nation’s security.

“It is hard to believe that a year has passed since the Pahalgam attack. I hoped for a miracle that day, thinking he would survive once we took him to the hospital,” Pragati stated. She also emphasised the emotional toll on the families impacted by the attack and reiterated the demand for greater security measures and employment opportunities for youth through military recruitment.

The Impact on Families and Community

Asavari Jagdale, daughter of Santosh, expressed her anguish, indicating that justice for families of terrorism victims can only be achieved when India is free from terrorism. She poignantly recalled the moments preceding the attack, describing a day that had initially promised joy and excitement before descending into chaos.

“For us, April 22 is a dark day. A terrorist, armed and aggressive, questioned our faith, and the lives of many were irrevocably altered within a matter of minutes,” Asavari reflected, emphasising the inexplicable nature of such violence. This horrific experience highlighted the fragility of life and the need for peace within the nation.

Asavari also acknowledged the military’s swift response through Operation Sindoor, which was aimed at dismantling terrorist bases and was launched on May 7, 2025. She believes that the decisive action taken during this operation is a step towards achieving justice and restoring safety in the region.

Operation Sindoor and Its Aftermath

On the day of the tragic event, the picturesque landscape of Pahalgam was shattered by violence, which shocked the entire nation. The cross-border attack involved terrorists targeting victims based on their religious identity, adding a communal layer to the tragedy. The fallout was immediate, igniting widespread grief and outrage across communities.

In response to the Pahalgam attack, the Indian armed forces undertook Operation Sindoor, which successfully destroyed nine major terror launchpads located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The operation targeted groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen, reportedly resulting in over 100 terrorists being neutralised.

Following the military action, Pakistan retaliated through drone attacks and artillery shelling. However, substantial losses incurred led the Director General of Military Operations in Pakistan to initiate communication with his Indian counterpart, ultimately resulting in a ceasefire agreed upon by both parties on May 10. This situation underscores the ongoing complexities and challenges surrounding security in the region.
