Donald Trump Criticizes Journalist Over Manifesto Question in CBS Interview

The CSR Journal Magazine

United States President Donald Trump strongly confronted a journalist during a televised interview when she quoted excerpts from what is reportedly the manifesto of the individual involved in the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. During the “60 Minutes” segment on CBS News, which aired on April 26, 2026, Trump labelled the journalist, Norah O’Donnell, a “disgrace” for her actions.

The incident took place shortly after reports emerged regarding the alleged shooter, 31-year-old Cole Allen. He had purportedly composed a 1,052-word document explaining his motivations prior to the violent act outside the White House Ballroom. In this document, Allen indicated that it was his “righteous duty” to target officials associated with the Trump administration.

The situation escalated when O’Donnell read a line from the alleged manifesto, in which Allen stated, “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.” Trump’s immediate reaction was one of anger, and he responded by criticising both O’Donnell and the sentiment behind the manifesto.

Trump’s Responses to Allegations

In response to the quote, Trump expressed his disapproval, claiming that he anticipated reading such words and disparaging the journalist’s character. “Well, I was waiting for you to read that because I knew you would because you’re horrible people,” Trump remarked, refuting any implication that the comments were directed at him.

When O’Donnell pressed for clarification on whether he believed the remark referred to him, Trump vehemently rejected the suggestion. “I’m not a pedophile. You read that crap from some sick person? I got associated with all stuff that has nothing to do with me. I was totally exonerated,” he stated, adamantly defending his reputation.

Trump further implicated figures connected to the “other side” and alluded to associations with individuals such as Jeffrey Epstein while reiterating that the manifesto reflected the thoughts of a “sick person.” Despite O’Donnell’s insistence that she was simply reporting the content, Trump maintained his characterisation of her as disgraceful.

Security Incident at Washington Hilton

The interview’s backdrop was further complicated by a harrowing incident at the Washington Hilton on the night of April 25, 2026. Reports indicated that Cole Allen allegedly entered the hotel armed with a shotgun and multiple knives, making his way towards the ballroom where Trump and nearly 2,500 guests were gathered for the gala.

As the threat escalated, guests were instructed to lie on the floor, prompting panic within the venue. Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance, was evidently moved to safety, while security personnel acted swiftly to neutralise the potential threat posed by Allen.

This disturbing sequence of events highlights the precarious atmosphere surrounding high-profile political gatherings. While the interview ended amidst significant tension over the quoted manifesto, Trump’s history has remained free from criminal charges related to any assertions made regarding the Epstein Files case.
