Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation (LHWRF) strengthened its Desh Bandhu Jan Aarogya Sewa by flagging off its Mobile Medical Van (MMV) in Jaipur. The fully equipped MMV was flagged off by Hon. Shri Parsadi Lal Meena, Health Minister, Government of Rajasthan, Ms. Shrubhra Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Rajasthan and Dr. Jitendra Soni, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Rajasthan. Dr. R.P. Mathur, Director (Public Health), Dr. Lokesh Chaturvedi Director (Reproductive & Child Health), Dr. R. N. Meena, Joint Director and State Nodal Officer (Non-Communicable Diseases) from Department of Health & Family Welfare, Rajasthan were present along with Dr. Nachiket Sule, Head-Lives Program, Mr. Ved Sharma, State Head-Rajasthan, LHWRF and Mr. Ravi Dadhich, District Program Manager, LHWRF.
The Desh Bandhu Jan Aarogya Sewa aims to enhance the well-being of communities by working towards addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with high disease burden, with a specific focus on Cardiovascular and Respiratory diseases. Aligned with this goal, in November 2022, LHWRF entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rajasthan, forging a partnership to work together on this important area with the State Department of Health and Family Welfare.
The fully equipped MMV will function as a mobile healthcare unit, equipped to deliver a comprehensive range of essential diagnostic services and medical support. This MMV enhances access to screening, diagnostic, treatment, and disease management capabilities in the Rajgarh, Laxmangad, Renni and Kherali blocks of Alwar. Moreover, as an integral part of the initiative, 18 health camps will be conducted twice a month at nine selected health facilities. These camps will be staffed by trained MBBS doctors who will be supported by dedicated paramedical personnel.
“We have witnessed a notable increase in cases of CVD and COPD in the region. To tackle these diseases effectively, we partnered with LHWRF, and we are confident of their ability to contribute significantly to the enhancement of specific healthcare services in the identified blocks of the Alwar district. The Mobile Medical Vans will help in bringing advanced healthcare capabilities to enhance patient health outcomes,” said Shri Prasadi Lal Meena, Hon. Health Minister, Government of Rajasthan.
Speaking on the occasion, Tushara Shankar, Head – CSR, Lupin, said, “Our primary objective is to enhance healthcare services related to CVD and COPD in a phased manner, specifically targeting multiple blocks within the Alwar district. By adopting a systematic approach, we aim to address these challenges by tailoring interventions and allocating resources accordingly. Our collaboration with the State Government holds immense potential for improving health outcomes and alleviating the burden associated with these two major diseases.”
Non-Communicable Diseases in India account for nearly 60% of all deaths in the country. Cardiovascular disease and COPD are the two leading causes. Specifically, Rajasthan has a higher prevalence rate of cardiovascular disease and deaths due to COPD compared to the national average. The Desh Bandhu Jan Aarogya Sewa focuses on respiratory and heart ailments and aims to strengthen existing primary healthcare services, working closely with government efforts. With a particular emphasis on hypertension, ischemic heart disease (IHD), cardiovascular diseases (CVD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and asthma, the program seeks to provide comprehensive support to the population at risk of developing or living with these conditions.
