The GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF) Skill Development Centre has been officially opened in Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh. The inaugural event was led by prominent spiritual leader and humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The event drew attention to the foundation’s goal of empowering local youth through skill development and sustainable livelihoods.

During the event, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar engaged with young trainees and staff, exploring their aspirations while also gaining insights into the Centre’s various training programmes. He encouraged the participants to make full use of the opportunities available to them and imparted blessings for their future endeavors.

Furthermore, the spiritual leader’s visit included a tour of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, where he was briefed on the airport’s development and infrastructure by G.M. Rao, Chairman of the GMR Group. This facility is designed to serve as a major aviation gateway for North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Objectives and Features of the Skill Development Centre

The GMRVF Skill Development Centre is designed to facilitate the training of up to 1,000 youth annually, particularly those from remote and underserved communities. The Centre aims to offer industry-relevant, job-focused training programmes that directly link trainees to employment opportunities both in India and abroad.

The training approach incorporates both theoretical classroom instruction and practical hands-on experiences, allowing participants to develop skills that are aligned with current industry requirements. This dual approach is intended to enhance the prospects of attaining sustainable livelihoods for the trainees.

In a statement made during the inauguration, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar noted that the development of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport represents an essential growth catalyst for the region. He emphasized that true development means creating opportunities for improving lives and fostering job growth across various sectors.

Broader Community Development Initiatives

The establishment of the Skill Development Centre is a part of GMRVF’s broader community development efforts, which commenced alongside the airport construction. These initiatives also include a focus on health, well-being, and livelihood opportunities for local residents.

In conjunction with the skill training initiatives, GMRVF has taken steps to enhance community healthcare through the launch of a Mobile Medical Unit in Bhogapuram. This service aims to extend healthcare access to surrounding areas, demonstrating the comprehensive nature of GMRVF’s commitment to community upliftment.

The overall mission of GMRVF is to create environments where local youth can develop the necessary skills to engage in and benefit from the region’s economic growth. By fostering industry partnerships and establishing a dedicated International Placements Wing, the Centre aims to enhance job readiness for youths and provide them with pathways to secure employment opportunities.
