The CSR Journal Magazine

IDFC FIRST Bank has announced a collaborative initiative with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park aimed at fostering sustainable business practices through the launch of a ₹2 crore national incubation programme. This effort, part of the bank’s IGNITE startup incubation framework, focuses on nurturing and scaling startups that tackle significant environmental and sustainability challenges across India.

The initiative seeks to support a total of 16 high-potential startups dedicated to promoting sustainability. The financial backing comprises a startup grant corpus of ₹1.36 crore, aimed at enhancing these enterprises’ operational capabilities, market exposure, and measurable environmental and social impact.

Startups participating in this programme will operate within various sectors, including green manufacturing, waste management, renewable energy, and environmental technologies. The goal is to harness innovative solutions from these sectors to address pressing ecological issues.

Comprehensive Support for Startups

The incubation programme will follow a structured approach, where selected startups receive tailored business diagnostics, expert mentoring, bootcamps, and essential networking opportunities. Through a rigorous evaluation process, the most successful startups will be awarded performance-linked grants to fast-track their growth, ensuring they can scale their operations effectively.

This initiative is designed to tackle critical sustainability challenges within India, promoting entrepreneurs who develop innovative strategies aimed at resource efficiency, waste minimisation, and climate resilience. By focusing on sustainable livelihoods, the initiative aims to create a lasting impact.

Moreover, the desired outcomes include facilitating the scale-up of sustainable products and services, subsequently reducing waste directed to landfills through recycling and circular economy practices. The programme also aims to bolster the business capabilities of participating enterprises, leading to an increase in market presence and job creation.
