Controversy Surrounds Manoj Bajpayee’s Film Ghooskhor Pandat as Legal Actions Escalate

The CSR Journal Magazine

Manoj Bajpayee’s film Ghooskhor Pandat is facing considerable backlash, prompting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to intervene. Reports indicate that he has instructed state law enforcement to file a first information report (FIR) against the director, producers, and other key members of the film’s production team. This intervention is significant, adding to the numerous challenges the film is currently encountering.

Public Protests Erupt

The film’s teaser, which translates to “corrupt priest,” has sparked protests across the country. Various organizations and community members are calling for the immediate alteration of the film’s title, labeling it as “casteist” and offensive. The Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha in Jaipur has expressed strong opposition, asserting that the title promotes a troubling caste-based perspective that should not be tolerated.

Demonstrations have also erupted in Bhopal, where members of the Brahmin community have taken to the streets. They are demanding not only the removal of the film’s trailer but also threatening further nationwide protests if their concerns go unaddressed.

Court Intervention

In addition to public outcry, the controversy has moved into the legal arena. A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court, challenging the appropriateness of the film’s title.

Netflix’s Response

Amidst the growing controversy, Netflix has reportedly removed the teaser and other promotional materials related to Ghooskhor Pandat from its platform. Speculation regarding a possible title change has circulated, but recent information suggests that the film may not be released on Netflix at all.
