Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated the ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan,’ which aims to highlight the importance of a healthy and drug-free lifestyle for the youth of India. During the launch on August 2, through video-conferencing, he asserted that the nation’s progress towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ or developed India heavily relies on the physical and mental well-being of its younger generation.

Modi specified that the campaign is not just about individual responsibility but extends to families and society at large. He stated, “The very name of this movement— the ‘Drug-Free Youth’ initiative—clarifies its resolve.” The campaign seeks to ensure that young people are aware of the dangers associated with substance abuse and are motivated to reject such harmful behaviours.

The Prime Minister encouraged the youth to build self-confidence and remain vigilant against addiction. He emphasised that understanding the perils of drug abuse is essential for personal growth and national development.

Collective Participation Encouraged in Campaign

PM Modi discussed the significance of collective action in addressing social issues, suggesting that community efforts can generate more enthusiasm and motivation than individual endeavours. He noted, “Some tasks can lead to frustration when undertaken alone, but collective campaigns empower participants with renewed energy.” His remarks highlighted the campaign’s goal of mobilising the youth towards a united front against substance abuse.

According to Modi, the initiative, originally launched last year as a pilot project from Kashi, has attracted over 125 spiritual organisations to join efforts geared toward promoting health and wellness among millions of citizens. He invited participants to pledge commitment towards the campaign’s objectives, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in combating addiction.

The newly launched initiative aims to inspire youth to not only abstain from drugs but also become advocates for positive change in their communities. This societal involvement is seen as a crucial step towards creating a drug-free environment.

Nationwide Campaign Featuring Diverse Activities

The ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ marks the beginning of a 100-week nationwide campaign highlighting substance abuse awareness. Weekly activities will take place every Sunday, intended to engage the public and foster a collective commitment to building a drug-free society.

The campaign incorporates a variety of events, including sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural performances, awareness drives, street plays, discussion forums, art contests, and community engagement initiatives. These activities are designed to attract diverse participation across ages and backgrounds, thereby furthering the campaign’s reach and impact.

Educational institutions, youth organisations, civil society groups, industry representatives, and spiritual entities are invited to join this collaborative movement against substance abuse. Active participation from over 10,000 locations throughout India was reported, with volunteers from various segments such as MY Bharat, the National Service Scheme, youth clubs, schools, and NGOs taking part virtually.
