Champat Rai and Anil Mishra Resign Amid Ayodhya Ram Mandir Donation Controversy

The CSR Journal Magazine

The General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, Champat Rai, along with trustee Anil Mishra, has reportedly resigned taking moral responsibility regarding allegations of embezzlement involving donations for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. This move follows a newly filed First Information Report (FIR) related to the alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the temple’s construction.

Sources indicate that the FIR has been registered under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which include Sections 306, 316(5), 317(4), 317(5), 61, and 3(5). This action was ordered by the Uttar Pradesh Government as part of its response to the increasing concerns about financial irregularities in the temple’s fundraising efforts.

Among those named in the FIR are individuals such as Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Tinnu Yadav, and Manish Yadav. Former SP MLA Pawan Pandey has alleged that between ₹7 crore and ₹7.5 crore in donations have been misappropriated, prompting the government to take swift action.

Special Investigation Team Formed for Inquiry

In response to these serious allegations, the Uttar Pradesh Government established a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 14 to investigate the claims made concerning the donations received at the Ram Temple. This decision came after a formal request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, highlighting the urgency of resolving the matter.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asserted that the government is committed to a transparent inquiry and has announced a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against acts that undermine public trust. He stated that the SIT will thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the facts to light as soon as possible.

At a public meeting in Deoria addressing over 106 development projects valued at more than Rs 456 crore, Adityanath reiterated that all allegations would be examined corroborated with evidence. He expressed his commitment to restoring any loss of faith in the public associated with the temple and its management.

Political Responses and Reactions

In light of the controversies surrounding the Ram Mandir, Yogi Adityanath directed criticism towards the opposition parties, accusing them of attempting to politicise the situation. He charged that those who previously opposed the temple’s construction are now seeking to capitalise on this alleged embezzlement for political gain.

Adityanath further remarked that groups that have historically denied the significance of Lord Ram and Ayodhya are now raising questions regarding the temple’s integrity. He has urged individuals to refrain from politicising the inquiry until evidence is provided to the SIT.

As the investigation progresses, the Chief Minister has called for cooperation from all parties involved, stressing that the truth would ultimately prevail. He has encouraged those making allegations to provide substantial evidence to support their claims, emphasising an objective pursuit of justice in this sensitive matter.
