Cash and Gold Discovered in Bengal Hospital Following Election Results

The CSR Journal Magazine

Following the recent election results, a government hospital in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, has become embroiled in controversy after a significant quantity of cash and gold ornaments was reportedly recovered from an operation theatre. This incident occurred just days after the elections, drawing immediate public attention and prompting protests outside the hospital.

On the morning of May 3, 2026, staff at the hospital discovered an unattended bag within the operation theatre. Upon inspection, the bag allegedly contained a considerable sum of cash, gold jewellery, and several documents related to land ownership. This unexpected find raised suspicions and quickly escalated the situation, involving local political activists.

In response to the discovery, members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) arrived at the hospital and launched a protest. The BJP has claimed that the valuables found in the bag are illegal assets purportedly connected to a leader from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The protesters demanded accountability and sought immediate action from authorities regarding the situation.

BJP Alleges Connection to TMC Leader

According to BJP representatives, the cash and jewellery were stored by Hossain Gazi, a known associate of local TMC leader Sawkat Molla. The BJP members have accused the TMC of corruption and have insisted that the recovery is indicative of more extensive wrongdoing within the party.

The protest escalated as BJP activists detained the doctor overseeing the hospital’s operations, pressing for clarity on the origin of the impounded items. The rising tensions between party affiliates in the area have led to a heightened atmosphere of unrest, with both political factions exchanging allegations.

In the face of these allegations, the hospital administration provided an alternative narrative regarding the bag’s presence. Dr Shah Rukh Khan stated that the bag in question had been left behind by a local TMC booth president’s son, Samser Mir. He noted that Mir was temporarily employed at the hospital, suggesting that the items in the bag were not illegal but rather a personal oversight.

Police Arrive as Tensions Mount

Law enforcement officials responded to the scene following the reports of the discovery, aiming to de-escalate the situation. Officers from the local police station arrived at the hospital to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The situation became particularly tense due to the polarising political claims being made by both sides.

The police are now tasked with determining the provenance of the cash and jewellery, as well as establishing the rightful owner of the bag. This investigation seeks to clarify the contents’ origin, which could have broader implications for the local political landscape going forward.

As the inquiry unfolds, both the BJP and the TMC continue to make competing claims, leading to heightened political activity in the region. The outcome of the investigation has the potential to impact the reputations of the parties involved as well as influence voter sentiments in upcoming electoral contests.
