The body of a seventeen-year-old girl was discovered buried beneath sand near the banks of the Kanchi River in Ranchi, Jharkhand, following unusual behaviour displayed by a dog. Local villagers had visited the riverbank on the morning of June 24, 2026, when they noticed the dog persistently digging in one spot, raising their suspicions and leading them to investigate further.

Upon approaching the area, the villagers were shocked to uncover a part of a human body protruding from under the sand. This alarming find prompted immediate panic among the local residents, who promptly informed the police about the incident.

Officers from the Dasham Fall police station arrived shortly after receiving the report, cordoning off the scene to begin their investigation. As they excavated the area, they successfully recovered the body of the teenage girl, stirring deep concern in the local community.

Identifying The Victim

The victim’s mother, who was called to the scene, recognised the body as that of her daughter, missing for over a week. Reports indicate that the girl had been residing at her maternal uncle’s house prior to her disappearance, and her family had been actively searching for her during that time, although they had not formally reported her missing to the authorities.

Bundu Deputy Superintendent of Police, Om Prakash, stated that the preliminary investigation conducted by officials suggests the girl was murdered. According to police information, she had been missing since June 17, 2026. Despite her family’s ongoing search efforts, no missing persons complaint had been filed before the grim discovery.

Authorities believe the body may have been buried in an attempt to conceal the victim’s identity and eliminate evidence related to the crime. This adds to the complexity of the investigation, raising questions about the motives and circumstances surrounding her death.
