The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking incident on Monday, Soni Singh (33), a private school teacher, was found dead in her kitchen at her residence in Gandhi Ashram, Akbarpur. The body was discovered by her mother-in-law, Malti Singh, who returned home around 12:30 PM and found Soni’s blood-soaked body. She immediately alerted family members and neighbors, who informed the police.

Husband Taken into Custody

Police investigations quickly pointed to the victim’s husband, Umashankar Singh, who serves as the city media in-charge of the BJP. He was detained and is currently being interrogated. According to police, the murder appears to have been motivated by suspicion of Soni’s alleged extramarital relations, with Umashankar reportedly claiming that their two children were not biologically his.

Timeline of the Incident

On the morning of the murder, Soni sent her children, Sanidhya (12) and Samar (10), to school around 10 AM. Mother-in-law Malti Singh went to buy household items, and father-in-law Vrishbhan Singh left for court around 11 AM. Taking advantage of the empty house, Umashankar allegedly slit Soni’s throat in the kitchen. The children were unaware of the incident and only learned of it when their father came to pick them up.

Family Background

The family resides with grandparents Vrishbhan Singh and Malti Singh. Vrishbhan, a retired manager in a dyeing department, had worked in Akbarpur Gandhi Ashram. Umashankar also runs a JCB business alongside his political responsibilities. Soni Singh was a teacher dedicated to her students, and the tragic killing has left the local community in shock.

Police Action and Investigation

The Akbarpur police registered a murder case following a complaint filed by Soni’s elder father, Yogendra Singh. Forensic teams collected evidence at the scene, and the body was sent for post-mortem. SP Abhijeet R. Shankar confirmed that initial investigations point to the husband, who is being questioned about the motive and details of the killing.

The incident has raised concerns over domestic violence and the abuse of trust within families, with authorities promising a thorough investigation into the case.
