Government Refutes Rahul Gandhi’s Claims of Electoral Fraud

The CSR Journal Magazine

The government has formally refuted allegations made by Rahul Gandhi regarding President Droupadi Murmu’s response to claims of electoral fraud. Sources from the government stated on Friday that Gandhi’s statements were incorrect, labelling it unfortunate that the President was drawn into this controversy. They reiterated that the assertions made by the Leader of the Opposition do not reflect any acceptance from the President regarding allegations of electoral misconduct.

This clarification came shortly after a delegation from the INDIA bloc met with President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over supposed irregularities associated with electoral rolls. Following the initial discussions, Rahul Gandhi expressed surprise at the President’s lack of denial regarding the allegations presented by the opposition.

Rahul Gandhi’s Statements Post-Meeting

After concluding the meeting with the President, Rahul Gandhi emerged to assert that he was “shocked” by the interaction. He claimed that instead of denying the allegations against the government, President Murmu had requested the opposition to provide evidence. Gandhi interpreted this as an implicit acknowledgment of the claims made by opposition leaders concerning vote theft.

During his remarks, Gandhi suggested a conspiracy involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Chief Election Commissioner against the essence of Indian democracy. He expressed dissatisfaction with the President’s response, which he had expected to question or deny the opposition’s claims. Gandhi stated that the evidence of electoral fraud was widely known and expressed readiness to present this information to the President.

He stated, ‘Evidence of vote theft is apparent throughout the country, with state after state allegedly experiencing such incidents. I was taken aback that the President is now demanding proof from us,'” Gandhi noted during his address to the media following the meeting.

Outcome of the Meeting with the President

The discussion between the INDIA bloc’s delegation and President Murmu reportedly lasted close to one hour. Opposition figures indicated that the President assured them she would examine the allegations once she had received the requested evidence. Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee described the President’s reaction as positive, confirming that she had committed to reviewing the claims presented by the opposition.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge remarked that the President listened attentively to the concerns expressed by the delegation. He mentioned that the President had assured them that she would consult deserving parties and subsequently determine the appropriate course of action. In line with this, the opposition is in the process of compiling evidence to present to the President in support of their allegations.

The delegation also hinted at the possibility of escalating their concerns to the Supreme Court, building on the memorandum previously submitted. This meeting unfolded within the context of a growing opposition campaign against the Election Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The opposition has accused the electoral body of facilitating the removal of valid voters’ names and has called for accountability concerning reported irregularities in the electoral system.
