The CSR Journal Magazine

Two individuals lost their lives, and 21 others sustained injuries following a canter bus accident in the Moghalla area of Kankote, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The incident occurred on an unspecified date. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to provide assistance.

The injured were transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) for urgent medical treatment. Among those injured, three individuals are reportedly in critical condition, requiring specialised care. Further details regarding the circumstances that led to this tragic event have not yet been disclosed by local authorities.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the region, particularly with the increasing number of passengers using public transport. Authorities have yet to investigate the root causes behind the rising number of accidents involving commercial vehicles.

Recent Similar Bus Accidents in Jammu and Kashmir

In a separate incident on October 1, 2026, approximately 30 passengers were injured in Ramban district after a sleeper bus, registered in West Bengal, overturned on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Emergency services promptly responded, and seven of the injured were referred to Government Medical College in Jammu for further treatment.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh confirmed that none of the passengers had sustained severe injuries, alleviating some concerns over the extent of the injuries. This bus accident adds to the alarming trend of road safety issues in the region, prompting calls for better enforcement of regulations for commercial vehicle operations.

Eyewitness reports indicated that the bus was carrying a full complement of passengers when it rolled over. Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the accident, further highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures for public transport.

Additional Incidents Highlighting Road Safety Concerns

In another related incident, an overspeeding passenger bus crashed inside the Navyug Tunnel on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Security cameras captured footage of the bus colliding with the tunnel wall, which subsequently caused another bus to crash into it, leading to the overturning of one of the vehicles.

Reports indicate that at least 13 passengers were injured as a result of this collision. Although emergency medical teams responded swiftly, concerns arose over the potential for more casualties, as the chaotic scene posed risks to both passengers and rescue staff.

The repeated occurrence of such accidents has raised alarms among local residents and officials. There is a growing demand for stricter traffic regulations and enhanced driver training to mitigate risks associated with public transportation in the area.

Authorities are urged to assess road safety measures, especially on routes known for high traffic volumes and challenging driving conditions. This need for action is underscored by the increasing frequency of accidents, which have inadvertently brought attention to the broader issue of road safety in Jammu and Kashmir.
