Suvendu Adhikari Plans Gujarat-Inspired Development for West Bengal

The CSR Journal Magazine

Suvendu Adhikari has expressed his ambition for West Bengal to emulate Gujarat’s developmental model, as he emphasised the need for the state to become self-reliant. During an event in Kolkata on Friday, he remarked that West Bengal has been dependent on external support throughout the nearly fifty years of governance by the Left Front and the Trinamool Congress. He attributed this perception to the lack of substantial progress and proposed that the state, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, should strive for a transformative change.

Adhikari referred to his recent trip to Gujarat, describing it as a “fairy-tale state,” indicative of its modernisation efforts and growth. He stated, “Let us strive to make West Bengal like Gujarat in the next five years. If not fully, at least 50 per cent of that should be achieved.” His comments underline the BJP’s vision for the state’s future and a departure from previous administrations.

Recent Electoral Successes and Community Support

Adhikari highlighted the significance of the BJP’s recent victories in the assembly bypolls in Rejinagar and Nandigram. He claimed that these wins were reflective of the public’s rejection of “communalism” and affirmed their support for the Prime Minister’s development policies. This support, he asserted, was visible at every polling booth during the by-elections, indicating a growing trust in the BJP’s governance approach.

Elaborating on the accomplishments of his party, he stated that the nationalist agenda had successfully countered the alleged divisive politics of the former TMC government, which was centred on language and regional identity. The BJP’s decisive victories in both constituencies have been touted as a clear mandate for change, according to Adhikari.

Additionally, he recalled his visit to Vadnagar in Gujarat, Modi’s birthplace, noting it as a significant personal achievement to partake in a pivotal programme there. He commended the state’s efforts in organising the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, which commenced on September 17, recognising it as a milestone in promoting community welfare.

Future Initiatives and Welfare Programmes

Looking ahead, Adhikari announced plans for a ‘Youth Innovation’ programme in West Bengal to take place after the upcoming Durga Puja festival. He indicated that other events connected to the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan are also in the pipeline, showcasing the ongoing commitment to engaging with the youth and facilitating their contributions to state development.

On Modi’s birthday, September 17, nearly three crore beneficiaries reportedly participated in the ‘Ashirbadon ki Diya’ initiative, putting a spotlight on various welfare schemes. Adhikari also mentioned the establishment of a system to assist those who have yet to access certain governmental benefits, revealing that around 60 lakh individuals attended a related Seva Setu programme designed for this purpose.

The event served as a platform to integrate West Bengal’s development aspirations with the overarching goals of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. Adhikari’s remarks underscored a strategy to link recent electoral successes with ongoing welfare initiatives, demonstrating an effort to solidify the BJP’s influence in the region.
