A woman in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, has allegedly shot her live-in partner, Anuj Kumar, following what police described as years of abuse. The incident was discovered on the morning of April 29, when Kumar’s body was found in a forested area near Julahapur village, exhibiting multiple bullet wounds. In response, Kumar’s family lodged a murder complaint with the local authorities, which prompted the formation of three investigative teams to look into the case.

Initial investigations pointed the inquiry towards Shobha Rani, the woman who had been cohabiting with Kumar. During police questioning, Shobha reportedly broke down and recounted the circumstances leading up to the murder. As per information from SP (Rural) Prakash Kumar, Shobha disclosed that she had been married to a man named Satyendra since 2011, with whom she has a daughter. Following their separation in 2023, she began a relationship with Anuj Kumar in 2024.

Shobha accused Anuj of subjecting her to physical and sexual abuse soon after they started living together. She claimed that he recorded inappropriate videos of her and threatened to release them as a means of coercion. Allegedly, he demanded money from her regularly and resorted to physical violence whenever she refused his demands. Furthermore, Shobha alleged that Anuj had malicious intent towards her 10-year-old daughter and had also attempted to molest her younger sister, an incident that had previously led to his incarceration.

The situation reportedly escalated dramatically on the night of April 28. According to Shobha, Anuj took her to a café and subsequently assaulted and raped her in a village setting. Initially contemplating suicide, she ultimately decided against it, concerned for her daughter’s safety. This fear led her to seize Anuj’s country-made pistol and fatally shoot him instead.

Police Action and Arrest

After apprehending Shobha Rani, police recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the incident. She was subsequently presented before a court and has been remanded to jail pending further investigation. The case has raised significant concerns about domestic abuse and the impact it has on families, particularly young children caught in such situations.
