The CSR Journal Magazine

A video featuring a large metal trunk hanging dangerously outside the window of a moving train has gained significant attention on social media, prompting a response from Indian Railways. The footage, shared on an X account, shows two passengers recapturing a colossal trunk, with much of it extending beyond the confines of the train coach.

Recorded by an onlooker from the platform, the video captures the surreal scene, as commentary from the individual can be heard, noting, “Yeh Bihar hai” (This is Bihar). The portrayal of such an unusual transportation method intrigued numerous viewers and raised serious questions regarding rail safety and adherence to regulations.

Public Reaction and Concerns Raised

The video quickly went viral, attracting a myriad of responses online. Many users expressed apprehension over the safety of other passengers, questioning the implications of such actions on the railway system. One viewer tagged railway authorities, asking if the incident warranted official attention, stating, “Wouldn’t this be considered an invitation to a potential rail accident?”

Another user highlighted that Indian Railways offers parcel services for transporting oversized items, emphasizing that parcel wagons can accompany passenger trains. Responses reflected frustration that individuals would undertake such risky actions instead of utilising available services. Several others roundly critiqued railway staff for failing to prevent this occurrence, stating that relevant personnel should face consequences for negligence.

In light of the viral video, Railway Seva reached out for further information, requesting the specifics concerning the station name, train number, and contact details of the individual who filmed the incident. They also provided alternatives for reporting issues via their platforms, including RailMadad and a dedicated customer service line at 139, citing a commitment to addressing concerns promptly.

Related Incidents Surface Online

Additionally, a resident from Bihar, identified as Abhishek Kumar, posted another clip on Instagram. This video featured two women attempting to load a substantial tin trunk onto a train. Despite several efforts, the women ultimately could not board the train, which departed the station before they could secure their belongings.

The connections between these videos remain unclear, and India Today has not been able to independently verify if they pertain to the same occurrence. Nonetheless, both instances have garnered significant attention, reflecting the challenges faced by passengers when transporting large items.

The incidents underscore ongoing concerns regarding railway safety protocols and the management of oversized cargo, with calls for improved regulation and oversight to prevent dangerous situations. Indian Railways continues to encourage compliance with established guidelines to ensure passenger safety and operational integrity.
