Bihar Man Murders Brother’s Family of Four and Packs Bodies in Suitcases

The CSR Journal Magazine

A man in Kaimur, Bihar, is accused of murdering his brother, sister-in-law, and their two children, reportedly dismembering their bodies and disposing of the remains in suitcases and sacks. The case came to light when police discovered unidentified human body parts in two suitcases recovered from beneath a river on May 10. Initially, investigators believed the remains belonged to three or four individuals based on the condition of the evidence.

Subsequent to the initial discovery, additional body parts were located in two sacks near a canal close to Abhede village in Ramgarh on May 12. As investigators progressed, they identified the victims as residents of Daharak village, with police confirming the missing status of Krishna Murari Gupta, his wife Durgesh Kumari, and their two children upon entering their house, which was found locked.

The situation prompted the Kaimur Superintendent of Police to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT), enlisting the support of forensic science specialists, biological experts, and intelligence units. Notably, no missing persons report corresponding to the victims had been lodged in either Kaimur or neighbouring districts at the commencement of the investigation.

Detention and Allegations Against the Suspect

In light of emerging suspicions and forensic evidence, police apprehended Vikas Gupta, the younger brother of Krishna Murari Gupta, for questioning. During his interrogation, he reportedly admitted to the killings, implicating not only his younger brother Rahul, also known as Gautam, but also a friend from Maharashtra, Deepak Kumar Rajput, alongside other associates.

According to police statements, Vikas indicated that family tensions and financial disputes had escalated, contributing to the tragic decision to orchestrate the murders. It was claimed that he had plotted the killings during discussions with Deepak in Maharashtra before returning to Bihar.

On the morning of May 7, the accused allegedly convened in a room within the family home. Krishna Murari Gupta is said to have walked in while they were discussing investments in the share market, at which point the accused launched their attack, overpowering him and reportedly stabbing him. The attack reportedly escalated as Durgesh Kumari entered upon hearing the disturbance, only to be killed when she attempted to flee.

Aftermath and Evidence Collection

The two children arrived home later that day and were also reportedly murdered by the accused. Following the killings, police allege that the bodies were dismembered within the house. The remains were allegedly packed into suitcases and sacks, which were subsequently disposed of at various locations on a scooter. Additionally, the accused attempted to erase evidence by cleaning the house, removing blood stains, and using cement in the room where the dismemberment occurred. Nonetheless, forensic teams succeeded in retrieving blood marks and other incriminating evidence from the scene.

Based on Vikas Gupta’s revelations, police have collected significant evidence, including two severed heads, the murder weapon, a scooter, a pistol, three cartridges, and an iron weapon. It is reported that two severed heads may have been discarded into the river from a bridge, prompting ongoing search operations for recovery.

Local police officials have also indicated that some family members were sent to their maternal homes a day prior to the attacks. Following the incident, Deepak Kumar Rajput allegedly returned to Maharashtra on the same day. Police have organised teams to apprehend any remaining suspects, vowing to pursue a swift trial and rigorous punishment for those involved in this heinous crime.
