BEST Bus Runs Amok in Dadar, 22-Year-Old Killed and Three Injured

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic road accident in Mumbai’s Dadar area claimed the life of a young man and left three others injured after a BEST bus reportedly lost control and crashed into multiple vehicles on Monday morning. The incident took place near Plaza Cinema and Veer Kotwal Garden in Dadar West, a busy traffic junction that witnesses heavy vehicular movement throughout the day.

Bus Loses Control in Busy Traffic Zone

According to officials, the BEST bus veered out of control while travelling through the area and collided with both a four-wheeler and a two-wheeler. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud impact before seeing damaged vehicles strewn across the road.

The collision created panic among commuters and pedestrians as debris scattered across the stretch. Traffic movement in the area was severely affected, with long queues of vehicles forming during the morning rush hour.

One Dead, Three Injured

Emergency responders rushed the injured to Sion Hospital for treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that an unidentified man, believed to be between 22 and 25 years old, was declared dead on arrival.

Another victim, identified as Rishabh Gupta, aged between 25 and 30, suffered serious head injuries and remains in critical condition. Doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

Among the injured was BEST inspector Satish Waghambare, 48, who sustained injuries to his chest and hip. Mahesh Doiphode, 50, also suffered a shoulder injury along with other blunt trauma injuries. Both are receiving medical treatment and are reported to be stable.

Swift Emergency Response

Police personnel, fire brigade teams, and emergency medical staff quickly reached the accident site and launched rescue operations. The injured were transported to hospital while authorities worked to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the roadway.

Traffic police diverted vehicles through alternate routes as rescue and clearance operations continued for several hours. Commuters faced significant delays due to lane restrictions imposed near the accident spot.

Probe Into Cause of Accident

Authorities have detained the bus driver for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation. Officials are examining whether a mechanical fault, driver error, or another factor caused the bus to lose control.

The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and public transport operations in Mumbai, particularly in densely populated areas where heavy traffic and crowded streets leave little room for error.

Police said a detailed investigation is underway, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
