Bengaluru Auto Driver Receives T-Shirt from Passenger Amid Heavy Rain

The CSR Journal Magazine

An auto driver in Bengaluru experienced a pleasant surprise after a passenger offered him a T-shirt while they were both caught in heavy rain. This incident occurred earlier this week on April 29, when the city faced significant rainfall. Priyanka, the passenger, was travelling from JP Nagar to Koramangala when sudden showers hit the area, turning a seemingly clear day into a downpour.

During her journey, Priyanka filmed the ride and shared her experience on Instagram. She explained that the weather had been clear at the time of booking the auto, but it quickly worsened, leading to both her and the driver becoming drenched. The auto rickshaw did not have any protective coverings, amplifying their discomfort.

Driver’s Considerate Attitude

Throughout the ride, Priyanka noticed the driver’s ongoing concern for her well-being. He frequently checked if she felt comfortable, demonstrating a sense of responsibility. She recalled his words: “I could see he was feeling bad that I was getting drenched.” Despite the uncomfortable conditions, the driver’s positivity shone through. When Priyanka asked if he was feeling cold, he responded with a smile, “Lag rahi hai, kya kar sakte hain madam.” His willingness to continue driving despite the rain emphasised his dedication.

The driver, who resides in Banashankari, stated he felt unable to stop the ride after accepting her booking. He explained, “Madam, aapka request accept kar liya thaa, isliye nahi ruk paaye, nahi toh auto kahin khada kar deta main.” His assurance to prioritise her ride underlined his commitment to service, even in the challenging weather.

Moved by his predicament, Priyanka made a decision to assist him. Before concluding the ride, she asked him to wait while she retrieved a T-shirt for him. When she handed it over, she noticed his smile, which expressed his gratitude and joy.

Rain Causes Disruptions in Bengaluru

The heavy rains in Bengaluru were the result of a vigorous pre-monsoon thunderstorm, leaving several parts of the city partially impassable. Hail and significant rainfall were reported in central locations, including MG Road and Trinity Circle. The accumulation of ice pellets on roads led to waterlogging and traffic disruptions, exacerbating the impact of the storm.

Priyanka’s video capturing the interaction with the auto driver has gained traction online, showcasing the small yet impactful gestures of kindness that can occur during adverse situations. Many viewers appreciated the demonstration of empathy that prevailed despite the chaos caused by the weather.

This incident serves as a reminder of the positive connections that can form between individuals, even in distressing circumstances. Featured in Priyanka’s video, the auto driver’s experience highlights the importance of compassion and recognition of others’ struggles, making it an uplifting narrative amid the challenging weather in Bengaluru.
