Bengal is burning, Govt is silent: Yogi Adityanath slams Mamata Banerjee over Murshidabad violence

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched a verbal attack on his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee over the ongoing violence in Murshidabad during protests against the Waqf Amendment Act. The UP CM has accused Mamata Banerjee of remaining silent at a time when the state of West Bengal is “burning”.

Complete freedom given to rioters to create unrest: Yogi

Speaking at a public event in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “Bengal is burning and the Chief Minister is silent. She calls rioters messengers of peace. Laaton ke bhoot baaton se kahan manne wale hain” (Those who understand only the language of violence will not be able to understand words).

“In the name of secularism, they have given complete freedom to rioters to create unrest. The entire Murshidabad has been on fire for the last week, yet the government remains silent. Such anarchy must be brought under control,” he further said.

CM Yogi thanks Judiciary, slams TMC, Congress and Samajwadi Party

In response to the escalating tensions, the Calcutta High Court mandated the deployment of 17 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the regions affected by the violence. Senior officials from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been coordinating with the state police. During a visit to Murshidabad, BSF ADG (East) Ravi Gandhi was approached by women from the affected areas who pleaded for protection.

Expressing gratitude towards the judiciary for its efforts at restoring peace in Murshidabad district, Adityanath said, “I thank the respected court in West Bengal for facilitating the deployment of central security forces to protect minority Hindus”.

The senior BJP leader also criticised national opposition parties, alleging that they are deliberately silent on the matter. “Congress is silent, Samajwadi Party is silent, Trinamool is silent. They are shamelessly supporting what happened in Bangladesh”.

Dalit Hindus being killed: Yogi on Murshidabad violence

Yogi Adityanath recently reacted to the violence and loss of three lives in Murshidabad district of West Bengal during Waqf protests. Earlier this week, Yogi expressed concern saying Dalit Hindus were being targeted and killed in Murshidabad because they would otherwise benefit from the lands which were previously occupied in the name of Waqf.

Speaking at a function in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, Yogi said, “They are scared that if the Dalits, the underprivileged and marginalised get to live in high rise buildings, then their vote bank will be finished. They will not be able to mislead people anymore. Political parties like the Congress, Samajwadi Party and TMC, they are capturing the lands of these Dalit, poor and underprivileged people leaving them homeless refugees.

Lakhs of acres of land have been captured in the name of Waqf in our country without any papers, documents or revenue records. When the government is trying to get those lands back and (Waqf) Amendment Bill is passed, then violence is being encouraged.

What is happening in Murshidabad?

Violent protests broke out in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, resulting in three deaths, at least 10 people were injured, including seven to ten police personnel and over 150 arrested.

The West Bengal government deployed Border Security Force personnel to assist with law enforcement efforts, and the Calcutta High Court ordered the deployment of central forces in Murshidabad.
